Longtime lurker. Finally registered a little while back. Sixty six year old retired manufacturing engineer. Lifetime gun and blade enthusiast and collector but somehow just recently got bit by the vintage blade bug. Really liking a lot of the new technology of todays EDCs and amazed at some of the Chinese products today. Have been mostly collecting, or hoarding todays modern knives. My wife actually has been somewhat a vintage collector. Smallish peanuts etc. Somewhere along the line after retirement I became more interested in good old USA vintage stuff. I think it started when one day I thought, man I wonder what happened to my Boy Scout knife? Well today right now I have more of different variations and brands than I want to admit. My wife’s now deceased dad was a vet of WW2. Was army engineering and present at the invasion of Anzio among other places. Old photos and a very few keepsakes she has spurred another interest. Military issue. I’m researching a little to see which pocket tools he may have carried. One the T-29 keeps popping up but others as well. Anyway just a quick intro. I’ll try not to break any rules. I’ve only made one other post. A silly probably question to most here. But I searched first and found a likely spot that wasnt THAT dead. For the record, at least right now I don’t care what mine may be worth. They’re all special to me. I always try to remember to thank in advance when I post in a forum I’m a member of and will try to remember to do the same here. Kinda sickly right now but look forward to meeting and learning from some of you. Thank you.

Well this has been a nice event so far. I’m a member of many forums and this one already just feels right. I just joined as a Gold Member waiting it to clear. And once again thanks to all.

Wow. Been an awful morning since I posted last. back in my chair and with the living awhile maybe. Lol.

Ah, yes. Arkar, we meet again, for the first time.

You're likely already familiar with some of the in-jokes of this sub-culture. Allow me to speak from experience.

Do not ask about locking mechanisms which are more suitable for prying.

No thread is safe from the Smatchet, but it mostly shows up when somebody asks about "tactical" knives. There is also an understanding that any all-black knife is automatically considered tactical, and subject to a 200% price increase.

It can be hard to distinguish between tongue-in-cheek humor, sarcasm, and actual hostility. Generally, people aren't being too serious, but you may have trouble getting a straight answer, amid all the snark. It sorta depends on who replies first, and how stroppy they're feeling.

The Sebenza and the PM2 have an... enthusiastic following, and if you read Bladeforums, you would be forgiven for thinking that those two knives are the end-all for every situation. So if you put up a "suggest a knife" thread, be as specific as possible. Otherwise, the answer will be one or both of them.
 
Hey thanks. And sorry for the late response. I mentioned I believe the wife and I are experiencing the crud whos name I won’t mention and I’ve been down and out most of the day. Appreciate the advice and input. I kinda think I’ll fit in pretty well here or I wouldn’t have signed on. I’m pretty thick skinned and have a sense of humor as well when needed. I probably wouldn’t ask such as you mentioned because after sixty six years I’ve learned what a loaded question is and how different people react. Honestly I’m more of a fact digger and researcher. I honestly don’t care what most folks would think is the biggest baddest etc. is. Lol. I’ll certainly chime in if I feel I can add some value to something. And If I stumble and say something stupid. Hey! I’ll admit and take what’s coming. I’ll probably be kinda quiet for awhile till I’m back up to snuff. One thing to remember about me is. If I ask a question it’s because I don’t know and want to know. And lurking around as long as I have I’ve been able to pick up a lot of info from what seems like a good group of folks. I thought if nothing else it only seemed right To join and support a board like this. So now that I’ve bored everybody to tears. And while I’m still seeing straight awhile. I need to check out something about my account. Which will not be mentioned here as it may lay a bait trail. Lol.
