I came across this site yesterday and joined. Apparently, I posted on an old thread and got "hammered", so I did a bit more "exploring" around the website. Thought I better start a new thread to see if anyone could help with identifying a maker's mark or logo on a knife I have. I came across a really "sharp" (you can shave with this thing) damascus fixed-blade with a maker's mark that I have yet to identify. It is an "upside down" horseshoe with a couple of initials on the inside. It looks like a stylized AB. Any help / ideas / guesses would be greatly appreciated.
I had an earlier (1970's) damascus purchased back in the late 70's when they were somewhat "rare", before the TV's shows like forged in fire, etc... popularized them. They were very expensive back then. I bought that one directly from the maker so I knew who it was. The one I have now, I got from a secondary source and they didn't know who the maker was either. I wish there was a directory of some sort or database that had all the signatures, logos, maker's marks logged in to where a person could simply refer to to find out who the maker was and possibly WHEN it was made. I know even with some maker's over time, their logos might have changes. This would help in dating a knife.

Welcome to the forum. I wish there was a list too. I often wonder if the stamp on a knife is actually a livestock brand. From the makers family ranch.

AB horseshoe. Is short for Anvil Brand Horseshoes, but I doubt there is a relationship.

Well, thanks for that info. If he's a Ferrier, maybe he makes knives on the side??? Worth looking into for sure. Thanks again for the info.

Yup, I checked and that is NOT the brand logo I have. I'd post a pic of the brand logo on the knife, but can't figure out how to do so on this site.

Use a host site such as Imgur. Upload the pictures to the site, copy the url and paste it here. You want to use the BBCode, the one with the IMG tags like this -

OK, I did what you suggested. Let me try this and see if I can get it to work. I'm computer ILLiterate, so not holding out much hope.

WOW! It worked. Surprise, surprise. Anyway, that is the logo or maker's mark I was talking about. Anybody ever seen this? Know who the smith is? Age?

Good job on the picture.

Before the picture I was thinking it would be funny if it turned out to be an Anheiser Busch give away.

Now that I see the picture I’m not sure I even see the A.

Hope someone here recognizes it.

Agreed! The "A" is iffy at best. It "looks" like a stylized "A", but who knows. The "B" was easy enough along with the horseshoe with nail holes.

Do not recognize that logo but I think it's AB also can we see the whole knife maybe that will be of help.

A picture of the whole knife might help as well, now that you know how. Some here might identify the knife by its possible "signature" style (of blade, handle, or the whole).

Kinda a "cheap-o" sheath with it, but I've found few smiths / knife makers that are true leather workers. Usually, they source that out. I have a friend that used to be a leather worker and made custom sheathes for several local knife makers.

Looks good, some sort of damascus San mai and the sheath looks pretty good to me, well made from what I can see. Love to know the maker too.
