Hi members. I come here highy recommended by other Schrade collectors. Here is a Knife on ebay that I brought up in the knife section of a gun forum I belong to. So far, it is fifty / fifty that it is a 'real' usa made Schrade knife. I'd really like your input, as I at first loved the knife and almost bought it, but now am having second thoughts. I have accidently bought other china made Schrades. Thanks so much if you can help.

rugershots, you'll probably get good info here from our resident Schrade experts...

...Just an FYI, however. We do not allow any links to personal auctions here on the forums.
The fact that your ip puts you in the same state as the item offered in the auction (and this being your very first post) gives one pause...but absent any information to the contrary the post and thread will stand.

Just be sure to check this thread regarding our terms of service and the issues that can lead to infractions or banning.

Other than that, welcome to the forums.

Well, blues, that was as nice a correction as I have ever been given in a forum. You are a gentleman. I will in the future be more careful. Thank you.
As for the bowie, I am asking about it only to find out if it is the real thing or not. Obviously I have doubts. Maybe I should have posted this in the Levine forum?

Give it some time here. Our Schrade experts shouldn't be too long in giving their opinions.

(Oh, and thanks for the good words. We try. We don't always succeed...but we try. ;))

Your knife appears to be a genuine U.S.A. made Imperial Schrade. The seller in this auction was formerly a member here before he was banned, but he is generally known to be honest and knowledgable in his auction descriptions. This same knife pattern was used on several small run special factory orders, most of which had custom gold filled etches. Yours is quite plain compared to those, but you didn't pay much (comparitivly) for it, so IMHO, I believe you got a fair deal.

uh, inquiring minds want to know, since everyone here is so nice, what did he do to get banned? what a shocker!

I did not mention his banning to reopen old wounds, but to clarify who the seller was since there was some confusion as to whether the OP and seller were one and the same. They are not. Search the Camillus forum for "REEVE" if you want to see the event, but please let a sleeping dog lay and don't bump it.

The OP knife, I neglected to mention, is obviously (to me) unfinished and likely came from the bankruptcy auction as we see it, with no shielding or etch identifying it as a SFO for Texas Rangers. I don't know who engraved it, but it wasn't a feature of the SFO that I recall. I don't have an archived photo of the properly finished knife, but maybe another member does and can post it for us.

This Bowie pattern, to my knowledge, was never a regular production item but was designed for SFO and comemoratives because it's wide blade allowed for nicely detailed decorative art, and the handle configuration lent itself well to a variety of material as you see in the pictures I posted.

I always had my suspicions as to whether the Texas Ranger Bowie was actually made by Schrade, as a good number of SFO Bowies were the same blade shape as the knife in the lower part of the picture. I have been told by other folk for some time the the Texas Bowie was made by Schrade, as well it could of been, although there does not seem to be any conclusive evidence of that statement that I have found so far. any other info out there?

There were heaps that look identical most unmarked at the Schrade factory clearance sale and I've sold perhaps 5 in the past however have kept the beautiful stag handle blued blade version..which would have basically started out the same in Schrade hands.....Tim from Tasmania knows all about these knives....Hoo Roo

Hey UL bet he hasn't got the Parer from the series ?:D
Same timeline I thought . 1973 ?

Hi Russel
I removed the original quotes etc, i am making some further inquiries to ensure all is correct before posting again. It appears that Schrade may not have been exclusively involved in the production of the Smith and Wesson, I will know more hopefully soon.
Regards Tim

Thank you one and all. Sorry it been a couple of days, but I appreciate your knowledge and all the way cool pics. I do like the knife, but cannot afford it right now. I did write to the seller and made a deal on another Schrade bowie that I like even more, a buffalo bill bowie. Buff' Bill always been a fascinating figure to me, and it is a Schrade!. I will visit back and post pics if you like.
Way nice forum here. Thx again.
