Hello to evryone. I bought this knife a few years ago. And wondered why it was only produced just 2years? Everyone I show it to asks where they can get one. And i tell them Buck doesn't make it anymore. Was it due to low sales? (kinda hard to belive thats the case as everyone I know wants to buy the one I have) Too expensive to produce? I love this knife and it's neer perfect blend of modern tactical style combined with a more traditional type of blade.

Also, if anyone knows. The only thing I don't like is the sheath. Seems a little bulky for the size of knife. And the plastic insert is bad about trapping dirt and scuffing the blade. So I was thinking about getting the Vangurd sheath for it. Will it work? They're close to the same size and shape, but the Big Sky has no finger guard.

The 403 is a GREAT knife. I too have not figured out why it wasn't around longer. I like it much more than my Vanguard.

Your comment about the sheath...it stinks. I can't stand those clips on a cell phone case and it certainly doesn't belong on a knife sheath. I ended up putting a lanyard on my sheath so that if it un-clips (which it has) that I will not lose the system (knife and sheath). When you are going the road on a bike and loose a knife, that ain't good.

As for it (403) fitting in a Vanguard sheath. Doesn't work. Slips right out of the snapped strap. As you stated...no guard.

Ok thanks. Looks like I'll have to go the custom route for a sheath. Anyone know of a good leatherman here who's decent in price? Or maybe just take it to a local saddle shop and get them to sew a leather belt loop on the back, trim it up and re-sew it

Oh I don't know. I was thinking about having both styles myself. Seems the Green/Grey handle is easier to get ahold of.

This is a mild day.
When you start getting told to smell your bolsters, sheaths, taste 'em, put stuff to flame, start giving knives girl's names like Rosie Dorado, Pearl Mica, Gret Snap...and it doesn't seem wierd to you...then you know you've lost ;)
