Hi guys! I am newly registered to this site but have used it as a research tool for a long time. I have an esee 6 for TKC but wanted to step my game up to a GSO. I have given up on them :( The only models i would buy are a 5.1 or a 7/7 but i am to late to the pre party and i dont see them being for sale till 2019 at the rate they are going. Funny if you read back far enough on here... people back in 2015 we're saying they are changing shop, and in 2016 they will wright their ship soon etc etc. Needless to say we are almost into 2018 and its the same song and dance.... Anyway they are the best as far as i can read, but their business model is by far the worst. I have moved on...So my question is, in terms of blade style and use, is there anything worthy of replacing a GSO?. I don't like rat, and spartan looks too much life a defense knife and not an outdoors knife. Anything else you guys would recommend that i may have over looked? FYI don't like the look of borus or bradford either. I am a picky bastard and the GSO looked perfect

thanks

Jason

Hey, Jason. Welcome aboard.

I think the fixed-blade guys will get you sorted out pretty quick. To my untrained eye there seem to be lots of knives that look just like those Survive blades.

I'd be taking a look at LT Wright's offerings. Great work, some options on steels and handles.

Without a better idea of what you mean when you say a step up, its hard to help more. If you describe the knives you have, what you like and don't like, others who have similar collections will be able to let you know what they think fits the gap you are looking to fill.

Check out Carothers Performance Knives.. Nathan Carothers is the guy behind the new/improved heat treat protocol for CPM3V.

My 4 favorites outside of Survive is
Carothers Performance Knives, there is a subforum here, but they sell out FAST!!! I like them better than my Survive knives. Amazing knives!! Although, I do LOVE my 5.1's, both 3V and 20CV versions! Then again, I equally love my CPK light choppers and HDFK in D3V!

I have been very happy with my Gollik knives that I bought this year! His Elmax and Sleipner knives are awesome! And they are custom, so you can get exactly what you want. Usually takes less than 8 weeks to get a knives, which is very reasonable! Really loving the Elmax and Sleipner heat treat and blade geometry!!

Bradford knives. Great knives! The G3 and G4 are not really built for pry tools or extra hard use, but they can do a lot! They have great blade geometry, meant for cutting. I have been VERY impressed my my Guardian 4 in 3V with a HT from Peter's HT. Awesome knife!!

And there is always Busse knives. Good knives. INFI does not have great edge holding, but it is very easy to sharpen and gets VERY sharp with ease. I only like them for large knives, like choppers, just don't make the edge too acute. When I take them down to 20DPS, I have had trouble with edge deformation when chopping. 25DPS works great!!

There are some great custom makers out there! Take a good look at some custom makers!

wow didn't expect to get soo many quick and helpful responses!!!! Thank you guys very much. To answer some questions i dont have a big knife collection. i dont know much, but i do love knives. i have more folders than anything but nothing super expensive. I have Sog Aegis -all black full grind no serrations -wont ever buy a serrated knife(i know i know ...sog...but i love it even though the handle is FRN) a spyderco delica4, a kershaw HOB launch 1 exclusive in tan, a couple other kershaws i can't even remember the names. They're laying in drawers around the house and some crappy gerbers. I also have a white rive backpacker in stone wash and the esee 6 from TKC with g10 scales and kydex.
Busse doesn't have anything less then 8 inches for sale. And the ratmandu's subhilt and choil drive me nuts. the bradford doesn't look rough enough, i want to be able to use it as a pry bar if need be plus the handle looks to passive.

but i will definately look into carothers, gollik and LT wright. thanks soo much!!! appreicate it.
