Well, I took the plunge and got a harbor freight metal bandsaw. Now I need to put it together! Hope it works like I want it to.......

Now get a good bi-metal blade for that little baby and you will be a happy man. Great little machines.

2 will be delevered on Thursday ;) A local saw sharpening place gave me 2 for 30 bucks. Not too shabby!

one of my next purchases, for sure. Just as soon as I can get the space....:D

thanks for the links. Printed and in my way too full book of internet help of all sorts.

This is a well built machine. Made from parts easy ti fix when the time comes.

Pen....get one! Now I need a cheap saw to cut wood....this one may cut wood? We'll have to wait and see.......

Oh, here is a quick list of what I have in mt 8 x 8 building.

HF Bandsaw
Skill sander
Craftsman Sander 2 x 42
Delts Drill press
4" vise
Delta grinder (wheel type)
1750 rpm motor for my buffer
portable O/A torches
Turkey fryer ;)
Misc tools...everywhere
Hedge trimmer
Weed eater
Push mower
Riding mower
peg boards for hanging stuff
lights
16" deep shelving along 3 walls about 14" from ceiling
2 walls with 3/4 ply counter tops

other small crap tucked away in nicks and crannies.....

I have it organised where everything just fits in its place so it seems less crowded than it really is :D

I got the 1 hp $169.99 one. There was one that was bigger but I didn't look it over since I have such limited space right now

yes, you can cut wood with it. Use the bimetal blade for that too. Just keep it clean and cool. ;)

Now that my bimetal blades are here here is my first modification.

The small bearing covering table that came with the saw was too small to use in the vertical position and the vertical table was too big to let the was down for storage....so I mage a nice medium table to profile on and use in the horizontal position. Much better now :D

If you have the model that has the 64 1/2"X1/2"X.025" blade, wood cutting blades are readily available.
I used to put a 6TPI wood blade on mine. Used it for years to cut wood before I ever got a woodcutting bandsaw.

The wood blades are about $5.00 or so. Why wear out a more expensive bi-metal blade cutting hardwoods which are full of dulling minerals?!?!?! Plus, the wood cutting blades cut way quicker.

Thanks Mike. Where did you get the wood cutting blades from?

My local saw p[lace is making some up for me! Sweet........

I gotta pick me up one of them bandsaws one of these days. Enjoy yours, and take some pics of the modifications for us.

sure thing.......there is a nice website that has the modifications. Look up metal bandsaw modifications on google.....
