Just ordered a HK 14715BK-1 ----sand colored handles to replace my beloved lost BM 520

I thought about getting another 520 but the current price is a bitter pill to swallow----enter the HK ---similar specs on paper--better steel and almost half the price.

Hopefully this will be a beast like my 520 was--otherwise I might have to get another one anyway---either way, it will be fun to try a new knife.

I just got one last week, I haven't used it much but I do like it. cant beat it for the price either

Yup--it provides considerably higher value than even the Griptilian models.

Had mine for couple days now and its really smoothed up---can't keep my hands off it.

mine was surprisingly smooth out of the box. I have heard many say it needs to be broken in, but mine was very smooth. almost a good as my 940's

FOUND IT!!! The more I thought about it the more it drove me nuts----scoured the place for the fourth time(literally) and finally found my old trusty 520--------its old, ugly(well not "that" ugly), very smooth and sharp----even gave it a few swipes on the Sharpmaker for good measure. Feeling very happy that I found my old friend:D-------was in a side pocket of one of my range bags.

In the mean time I've ordered another HK 14715------the first one is a plain edge---the one coming is a combo edge---both with sand scales. I know everybody seems to hate the combo blades but they really are the most useful to me for EDC----I studied and looked and then looked some more and the serrations don't seem to interfere with belly of the blade like on my mini versions (Grip 556 and Presidio 525)----this new HK might replace everything if the cutting edge is right. My 520 is plain edge and the size of the blade overcomes some of the limitations of a non-combo blade----my mini's cut through plastic strapping like butter---my coworkers always seem amazed how fast I slice through straps

Comparing the HK to the 520----same overall length but the HK has a longer blade and shorter handle--with a more compact, denser feel when closed----sort of, as they are both beefy knives. The belly of the blades is nearly identical (probably why I gravitated to the HK in the first place)---the clip point and drop point shapes are really close as well.

Could someone post a pic of this knife next to a full size Grip?
Thinking about picking up a full size Grip from Cabellas in D2, but I think this might be a little cheaper.
Thanks.

I just traded a 14716bk for a GEC recently, it was an excellent EDC. I've owned a couple of Grips and feel like the HK is a better choice for a carry knife.

I got a 14716 about a month ago and like it so much I just picked up a 14715. Has anyone tried taking off the black coating? Wondering if paint remover will work, and what it looks like under the coating.
