I have had a hell of a lot of fun with a couple of axe re-furbs lately. There seems to be a lot of quality steel hiding in garage sales and second hand stores for not a lot of money. A few hours work and a total cost of around $35, and I have two "new" choppers. Not to mention the quality garage time spent alone with your mind only to task. I'd still like to find a nice double bit and an old scout hatchet to round out my collection. Any pics you guys have of completed projects or work in progress would be appreciated. :)

One of my found axes is a True Temper Flint Edge. I like it for splitting and limbing, but it isn't much for felling. Do you know anything about the source or time period for those?

Also, where do you get the lovely handles for those? Just don't tell me you whittled them with a Case Stockman from a hickory that your father planted. It's okay if that's where you got them, just don't tell me :)

Slowly but surely I`m getting all of my "treasures" restored. I`ve found all of these in the last couple of months. I`ve got them all over my shop walls untill I can get to them.

VERY nice collection John.

nmb... Those are just stock hickory handles from the local ACE hardware. Not quite sure of the vintage. Maybe someone else knows.

That's super cool! If you find enough I dare say you could make good money refurbing them and selling them, surely at a hefty profit even when at low-fair prices. Hint hint! ;)

I may eventually do that, I`ve got 2 of the Plumb Boy Scout hatchets. I just can`t pass up a good deal when I find one. In the bottom left of the last picture you can see my L. C. Smith typewriter. It has no ribbon and 3 keys are stuck. I gave $9 for it in a resale shop, two weeks later I saw the exact same model for $197 in an antique store. My wife calls me Fred Sanford. :o

Hey Stomper if you make enough of those good deals. Soon it would be cold winter. Would be a great time to take your wife out on a trip to Hawaii. Im sure she would be show you how happy she is ^L* ...... So get some of the good old grease for your elbow and get to work..

Time well spent on those two- they turned out well. Here is a really old Plumb Victory that I cleaned up and handled:

great stuff, I found a hatchet that I posted in an earlier thread for cheaper.......great pics brother!!!!!

Great pics! I picked up a Collins at a flea-market a couple of weeks ago. I started stripping the handle to see what kind of shape it was in and got a big surprise; the handle was chestnut oak. I only paid $10 for it but have several hours in refinishing the handle.
