these pics, dont quite do justice, s30v 5 1/2" 10" oal black spacers and a great piece of stab, spaulted black line maple. lanyard hole, a shealth by willian Ho'Na'Ku. ive been having lots of fun lately:)

I thought maybe you posted the pics on your site (great work there). I checked but don't see 'new hunter' there either. Don't tease me. Give us the pics. I'm a sucker for hunt'n knife designs.

Hey Laurence, that's cool, you don't see those trailing point knives much these days, but that's what a hunter is, to me. Great work, beautiful grind.

As usual Laurence, great work. Looks like a lot of thought went into the line. Should be very good skinners.

it means a lot to hear this from other makers. i sell my blades at a local gun shop and do well, but some times i get a run of experts! that have no idea what they are looking at and make great comments like $275 dollars! i could buy a life time supply of knives at wally world for that! i smile and reply! so you would rather buy a life time supply of junk? :) this s30v steel is great. loving it more all the time for hard use knives.

nice knife! I have the most trouble ginding a trailing point blade but you did a great job on that one.

Trailing point knives with that big belly are great for skinning and slicing, but they seem to have fallen out of favor lately with the popularization of the drop point.

Still, aa Marbles Fieldcraft goes to the deer woods with me. I like the trailing point.

Beautiful knife, with an impressive grind.

i am self taught but here how i grind the trailing point. after hogging off most of the metal but leaving the last inch or so of the point untouched i put on a fresh norton 80 grit. then starting at the plunge as i reach the curve i swing the handle down to match the ark of the belly to the point and gentley pull the blade towards me. this gives just the right amout of distal taper and keeps you edge thickness even. if i can help any more feel free to call or email.

I like it a lot. Very nice skinner. I've read posts where they say s30v doesn't polish well. Your finish looks good to me. I'll have to give it a try but am sure a mirror finish would be very difficult.

What grit do you finish the s30v with, please?

Very nice looking design.

norton norax belts are the way to go. i use the x100 which they say is like a 150 grit. but it sure looks more like a 300 grit. its twice as tough a D2 so its no wonder its a b@#%^ to finish. the corr, resistance and the fine edge it will take are great. i get my belts from tru-grit 909-923-4116 and they now have s30v in stock. tell them Rhino sent you. :D

So, --- you're finishing the blade with 150 grit (that you say seems more like 300)???? I guess your grinding with something like 80 or 100?? The finish from the pics look good for that to me and I have read that hand finishing s30v past 1000 grit is futile.

I'm killing myself hand finishing my ATS-34 to 2000 grit, then buffing. I still can't get all the tiny scratches out.

it has to much scale on it and it discolors that yellowish shade. a few more pieces of stock and i wont order any more. 440c BG-42 and s30v only now. i also use the norton x45 that they say is like 320 grit on my pygmy Rhino model that is in BG-42. i just dont care for mirror finish. on a worker. as soon as you get a scratch it looks like H@**.

I think you saved me some disapointment. I was going to order some 154CM this week for a few kitchen knives and a couple bird and trouts. Thankfully I got lazy and did not pick up the phone. After seeing the finish on your Crucible CPM steel I think I will go with s30v or s60v. Maybe s60v for the kitchen stuff. Maybe s30v for both. But I am going to go ahead and try the CPM steel. I just wonder if the few Klingspor belts I still have will cut it. My next belt order will be the Norton. I hope they make the 1 X 36. Yes, that's what I'm working with so far.

I like the way ATS-34 polishes up but it almost scratches just by wiping it with a paper towel and the higher the shine the more it shows.
