I'm looking for opinions on a new deer/elk hunting knife for gutting/skinning application. My options so far include:

Fallkniven F1
Buck Vangard Master Series BG42

Which would work best? have I left out any better options in a production blade?

Here's a second vote for Bob Dozier's knives. I've used one of his Yukon Pro Skinners for many years, and it has seen some hard use. It is an amazing hunting/camping/game processing knife. It is the standard by which I measure all others.

BTW... A.G. Russell's site always has an excellent selection of Bob's knives.

I have used a Vanguard for general camping for years, and love it. I have used a similar blade shape in the folding Buck Duke to skin squirrels and rabbits, and it worked great. So, my vote would go for the MS Vanguard. Which I have, BTW. Just haven't had a chance to go into the woods and use it yet.

As a hunting knife, with "gutting and skinning" in mind, I prefer more of a skinner style blade. Everyone has heard of the Buck Skinner as exemplifying the style.

I have done well with the Puma White Hunter and White Hunter II; especially on larger game like moose and elk. The White Hunter II with Kraton is just the right size.

I do, however, enjoy the full sized White Hunter with stag handles for when I go elk hunting "dressed up" a bit.

Both have semi-sharpened false edges for chopping branches, bone and other stiuff you don't want to do with your "good blade" while in the field.

BTW, you will not do wrong with either of your choices. I only mention the Puma WH and WH II because of its purpose designed blade and your intended use for this specific knife.
