Hytest in action,Fast becoming my favorite trail axe

Great looking axe and a nifty bit of axe work, too. What all you got in that case?

2 Tuatahi work axes and 3 Hytest.

Thanks for looking.

Wow! Not only are you a fan of 'top drawer' axes but you actually use them. That's quite the unique carry/storage case!

Those are some real beauties! I've been drooling on ebay.au at all the Hytest/Keech axes for a while now looking for design inspiration. I finally snagged a Tasmanian pattern Plumb for like $27. It had the modern "Cooper Tools" branding on the sticker, but the head was stamped with only "Plumb" so I'm hoping it's decent quality. One of these days I'll finally get that Tuatahi or Brute Forge racing axe that I've always wanted.

Your first post photos look like a racing axe because of the thin cheeks. I'd guess the 6 81 is the manufacturing date. Awesome axe. I'm also guessing you work on a FS trail crew, maybe with idaho_crosscut.

Great find!

I saw a Cooper Tool catalog that listed their Plumb Tasmanian axe as being made in Sweden. The head looks similar to the Arvika 5 Star axe (by Hults Bruk).

I thought the same thing when I first saw the Ebay listing, but this one is a Tasmanian pattern not just a 4.5 pounder out of Sweden. The seller had it listed as a "Cooper Tools All American Tigranian Axe". Here's a close-up of the head.

Here's a group shot with my Kelly Perfect Jersey and a Collins Legitimus Connecticut.

It's almost the exact same dimensions as the Collins, but way thicker and about a pound heavier

Nice Looking Head.To bad they are not available in the US.Shipping is the killer for the axes on Ebay.AU

It was listed on Ebay in the US. I think the seller was out of Michigan or Wisconsin. The surface was rusted where the paint was worn, but no deep pitting and the handle looked to be the original (some red paint, but all dried and cracked). There's a few dents on the poll, but the bit actually doesn't look like it was ever sharpened. One of these days I'll get her all cleaned up and hung on a new handle. I really lucked out. I had been fighting the urge to buy one from axoexa because of the shipping cost when this popped up on my ebay search. To my door for less than $40 total is pretty good I think.

Nice axe Moose! Octagon haft looks nice also. Theres little doubt you know how to use it.

Doug, sweet axes and great looking cuts! Impressive! Thanks for taking care of our forests.

I owe you some work and some pictures of that crosscut saw. I started cleaning it up a bit; it's going to clean up really nicely. Take care!

I'll try to get it out soon, but I won't make any promises on that. This boy has been pretty much desk-bound for the last year and a half, unfortunately. I can guarantee you that my notches won't look as spectacular as yours anyway! Maybe I need to come up for some lessons!!
