I never had a decent machete and I can put one to use. Last week while I was in Nicaragua I went to the market in Masaya and bought an 18" Imacasa. What a difference over the Chinese junk! I really like it.

Where can I get a sheath for it? I bought it in the local market. You can buy Imacasas in the tourist markets, but they come with the fancy leather sheaths that cost way more than the machete. My Imacasa cost 80 Cordobas (almost $4.00 US!)

I like Nicaragua a lot. I go there 1-2 times a year on church trips as we're partnered up with a church in Masaya. The people are always very friendly. The food is pretty good but not a lot of variation. The cost of living is very cheap for an American. The weather is either hot and dry, or hot and wet.

If I could figure out how to make a living there I'd be tempted to live there at least 6 months out of the year.

On another knife-related note, this trip I took a bunch of SAK Campers I bought used and gave them out as gifts. They were very appreciated.

Great snag with the Imacasa. They cost a lot more up here! Great machetes at any price, though.

6thTexas,
I'm glad you liked Nicaragua. Maybe on the next trip down you might like to visit my shop. It's located just outside of Managua. We make knives here and sheaths as well. You can see some of the things we do at: www.esvoministries.com

Let me know the next time you'll be in town.
Mike
