while looking at a knife i was considering i noticed that the sellar stated that it was manufactured in 1973. the photo clearly shows a 3 pin LB 7 with a serial number of AW21826. well just to clarify things i wrote the seller and told him of price list dates and the possible change in date from 1973 to 1983. this is his reply
"No misprint, my information is 100% correct. Time has a way of changing history. I've seen those time lines, don't know how accurate they are but the original Schrade closed up shop a few years ago. The name was recently purchased by a venture capitalist and a new group opened up shop. For what it's worth ... that info you see on time lines are not accurate. In September of 73 I purchased a 1973 Corvette. In December I took a road trip with a few friends from a Corvette club to the Catskill Mountains, stayed at the Nevele Hotel. We socialized with a Stuart Love from the Schrade Company located in Ellenville. He brought us to the Schrade factory where I purchased these knives. The general public may not have been able to purchase these until years later but they were being produced in December of 73. I originally made the purchase for Christmas presents for my employees. I thought they were lost during a house move but I recently found them stored away in an old trunk."
thought you all could use the education i know i am certainly more enlightened!

Sorry delmas but I'm not buying it. I think he's full of...

So they made a handful in 1973 and just picked that serial for fun to put on it? I found the listing. He'd also have us believe that original box was a 1973 model too. No way that knife in that box is from 1973. Sheath too. Three line Uncle Henry tang-stamp as well. It's a picture perfect mid-80's package. I think we're treading pretty close to the "we're not allowed to discuss current auctions" line here but I just don't want to see anybody get suckered.

Anyone else care to weigh in?

The pin changes are well documented in company internal memos and engineering change orders (as was the announcement of the pattern launch). Look at the logos on the packaging for confirmation of the time frame of production.

i know it is the boderline thing, but just couldn't help it, especially with his fact filled reply. i wrote him with the question about it and gave him the price list dates and gave him the 1983 out which is pretty close to the date of the knife (?). our memory is soooo bad at times esp the 70's for i am sure i was alive then but don't remember much of it.

Some sellers will say anything because they know some buyers will believe anything.

.....perhaps that's where he told his wife he was in 1973..and he's sticking to the story........anyone that purchased a stated 1973 LB7 with the incorrect Tang Stamping, incorrect number of handle pins, incorrect color sheath, incorrect sheath stud, incorrect Schrade logo on sheath, incorrect shape of sheath, incorrect Serial Numbering, incorrect stated purchase date, all for an early edition LB7 <meaning 78/79> is likely to be enlightened of only one thing..enlightened of their money....it is however a story 10 years ahead of its time....Hoo Roo
