Hey Guys,

I just received my first Investigator Pen today. Brass! It's beautiful, heavy and feels great. Now, when I'm sitting in meetings I can fidget with my Hinderer and not alarm anyone! Anyway, it came with a black o-ring and I can see from N2Ks investigation of the pen where they can be used but does it have a necessary function? Should I put it on the tip or its it optional?

I have one and absolutely never regretted the purchase, it's always with me. Great long term investment you've made and always sticks out in meetings as professional IMO. The o ring is just an extra I'm almost positive.

The o ring is just an extra I'm almost positive.

An extra for where? No O ring was installed on my pen; one was just sitting at the bottom of the bag.

I agree it's a great pen; the size is just perfect, and the fit/finish is top notch! It's a tough pen too; mine already survived two trips inside the dreaded washing machine :o

An extra o-ring for the ink refill? When you unscrew the pen to replace the ink cartridge.

The o-ring sits just behind the threads on the writing side. It helps to keep the cap from coming unscrewed. Look at the picture below at the copper pen. The black behind the threads is the o-ring.

Thanks! I see. I thought the cap would smash it down but I see how it goes inside and grips the inside of the cap. Much obliged!

No worries. My pens have both evolved a bit more and I put #5 o-rings into the outer grooves. Gives a bit better traction than the grooves them selves and takes the sharp edges off. Plus its cheap!

You can see it with the o-rings in the background of this pic.

I've bought them from both. Ace only had a couple in stock and you need ten for each pen. So I went to Home Depot and bought the rest. Home Depot had them in the plumbing section but they were still pretty hidden. I had to ask for help to find them.

The "O-ring" mod is a nice addition. The o-ring that serves as a friction set for the cap is a must. Don't wanna lose your cap.
Any hardware store (all the ones mentioned) are going to have them, they are cheap so get extras.
