There are two cover stories about our favorite knife company in the June 2004 issue of Knife World magazine. Very interesting reading. I can share my copy (send it to you, anyone that is interested, I can't keep and store all the magazines I get) if anyone is interested.

Along with all the history and such is this photo of one of the very collectible 'Anheuser Busch' knives, featuring a Stanhope lens. I have only personally seen these knives in a locked up, glass fronted display case, and the owner (this was at a knife show) wouldn't let anyone peer into the lens. Most, I think, show a portrait of Adolphus Busch. Companies other than Schrade made these; they were an important and interesting Advertising thing way back when.

Just interesting, I thought I'd share. And perhaps our LT has one to show us?

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend.

Well, the pony express is late here in Arizona as usual. I don't know why they don't seem to want to ride through here during June. HELL, it's only 110* today. No pun intended, of course.

That is a very, very, cool knife. LT, you got any of those?

Bill

That knife is quite nice, I only see things like that on pictures, we don´t have knife shows in Mexico.

I hardly buy any magazines any more, surfing the net has replaced reading them.

Well, I hope you all have had a weekend better than mine, I worked last night and got out today at about 7:00 a.m. as I walked out on the street I tripped, fell down and hurt my ankle, later on I noticed that the braided horse hair band had fallen off my hat, perhaps it was a Freudian thing, now I´ll have to make me one.

Don Luis,
Hope your injury heals quickly. Glad to see you can still post OK. ;)

Whoever finds that hatband will be finding a nice one, if it was one you did for yourself, as all of your work is quite nice. Even your (daughter's) SOCKS were the nicest ones on display here. :D

Bill

That was a buoght hatband, I hadn´t thought about making any until LT brought up the idea, I´m thinking of just braiding a simple but nice cord from some nice yarn or thread to tie around the hat. I don´t want to comment much so as not to hijack the thread.

Don Luis,
You are right of course, about hijacking Phil's thread. Phil, it was just a small detour, my friend. Hope you forgive us. :o

It's still a nice Schrade knife.

Bill

P.S.
Please don't have the moderator punish us...........Bwaaaaaaaaahhhh :D

Ah, guys, we don't worry about hijacking threads around here. Don Luis, hope there is no lasting damage. Go ahead and make yourself a nice hatband. And post us a pic.

Bill, you caught me posting in one of the other forums! Well, that knifemaker does good work, looking at his website, and I had a Spike Elk Antler rack laying around that I always thought would make a nice knife handle. Being just a spike, each antler is about 21" long. I offered half of it to him, gratis, of course, and he has accepted. He's going to make a big bowie for a customer, and that person is requesting Elk antler.. and I think it to be so cool that old antler would become a work of art.

Presently I do not have ANY of the stanhope Anheuser Busch knives. I do know someone who has them all and every so often I up my offer to no avail. Thats right I have none. Ya got me. Lo siento Don Luis if it is any consolation I fall down a lot myself. As far as these knives I just never really chased them that hard. There are plenty of them around in this case it is only a matter of being willing to pay for them. As far as the knife shows I would bet there is a lot of great stuff ( to be found privately) down south and the quality of the available leather work is apparent. I would put an ad in the local newspaper for any old knives or memorbilia ( you never know ). That is where they found the supposed real Bowie knife. As far as the weather in Arizona remember it is a dry heat. Yea like in a pizza oven. I suppose every area has its weather problems. However I never got used to the desert. I guess I would rather freeze than fry however check again in February. LT

I´m here with a slightly swollen ankle but not much pain, just finished making some reports and paperwork related to the weekend´s work, it´s all gotten much too bureaucratic lately.

This morning I went back to the place where I fell yesterday and found my horse hair band lying there, close to a maguey plant, I was crossing a small garden between two streets when I fell, apparently not many people passed by and the band wasn´t too visible.

It´s true that sometimes you find interesting things over here, I used to know a guy who worked buying and selling second hand stuff who told me that once he got a bunch of new looking stag handled pocket knives (mostly Bokers) for a very low price, held on to them for a while but finally decided to sell them one by one till they were all gone, too bad it happened before I met him.

Back to the thread, here´s something about Adolphus Busch that I found on the Web, including a pic of the knife:

And you really have to check this one:

Hey Don Luis,
Thanks for the history lesson and the chance to see more cool knives at the same time. Even the nice (forum content) Schrade Walden.

Glad you found your hatband. I have one made from a four foot diamondback rattlesnake, and I know we become attached to such items.

Heal quickly. There may be some ping pong nearby you would not want to miss participating in due to injury. ;)

Bill

Don Luis! Farout! Unreal. The best illustrations of these knives I have ever seen, and in a knife book? Hell no! A corkscrew web page! Thank you so much. I am so impressed.

Phil

Don Luis, my people are Scottish and Irish. They pray to St. Anthony when they lose something--just wondering ... And glad you found it. The links are great. St. Louis just oozes gemütlichkeit, right down to the knives, and those pics convey it. Like LT said, old cold steel, cold beer, it doesn't get better ...

I just got my knifeworld good article it is good to see the company get some good PR. It is also good to see some other Schrade a holics. LT

Interesting, in Mexico the ladies pray to St. Anthony and put his image upside down when they want a husband.

There´s also an old joke that goes something like this:

- Do you need something from San Antonio ?

- Yes, when are you going there ?

- I´m not going, I´m praying to him tonight.
