Just before heading down to Dirttime ( www.dirttime.com ) last month, I ordered an Izula from knifecenter, ostensibly to use as trade goods, but really because I wanted one for myself. As soon as I opened the box, I knew I'd be keeping it. The grinds were perfect, the sheath is very well executed with no rattle at all, and it was actually pretty sharp unlike most factory knives.

I attached the ferrorod to the sheath, wrapped a bit of paracord on this and that, attached a photon light, and was done. I threw it in with probably 15 other knives in my duffel bag and flew down to Cali for a week of outdoors skills and general tomfoolery.

Well, all those knives got neglected...the Izula got used exclusively for the whole week with the exception of my EMT shears and my Victorinox Farmer which got pulled out for saw duty once or twice. The Izula cut food, made traps, split kindling, made a yucca sheath for a Kabar, built shelters, smoothed escrima sticks, did some first aid duties cutting dressings alongside my shears, and was appreciatively fondled excessively (does that sound dirty?)

I also had the chance to see an RC3 and RC4, both of which were equally impressive. Though there weren't a huge amount of RATs around, they were by far the most sought after knives in terms of trades and general curiosity....

I've had the same results at a few Hoodlum gatherings. The RAT knives seem to really interest people.

The Mrs. is doing an RC-3 passaround right now over at survival.com.
