Starting to make scales for my new izula and if they come out nice, my izula 2 as well. I just picked up two pieces of 1/4" wood (padauk and purple heart). On a side note, ive only had the knives for about a day now and the izula has already bitten me. My own stupidity though. Ill be posting more pics when they are finished.
So I finished this set of scales. I chose the Padauk wood first and decided to go with the same exact design as the stock scales. I'm pretty excited about how well they look but at the same time I'm not too happy with them. This is the first time I've used this wood and I was under the impression that this wood was pretty hard but it disappointed me the whole time. It kept splintering really bad and it cracked twice, one spot on the corner on one scale and straight down the middle on the other scale. The major one happened at the very end when I was finally done and putting it all together. I didn't even screw it together hard. I put in a lot of effort into these so I'm going to try gluing them and re-sanding but don't have much hope. I plan on making another set with the purple heart and the same design soon. Anyways, enjoy the pics.

FREAKIN A!!!

The purple heart turned out pretty well. I liked working with it more than the padauk. Seemed like a harder wood too which is weird. They aren't as symmetrical and perfectly shaped like the padauk scales are. I'm probably going to shape them a little more later.
