Picked up an Izula a few days ago and have been using it as an EDC. We've had a ton of rain lately so today was the first day I got out in the woods since I got it. Had my first attempt at making a figure 4 today and failed miserably haha. Thought I had it at one point and then the dog stomped through and knocked it over. After about another half hour of fiddling around with the notches and such I accidentally broke one of the sticks so I called it a day. Hopefully I'll get it next time. After all that notching and carving and making an obligatory fuzz stick the Izula still shaved hair off of my arm.

Anyway, nothing you all haven't seen before but here's a shot of the knife.

Looking at replacing that Gerber, I think I may see an RC-4 in my future.

Thanks for sharing, I'd keep the Gerber as a Truck knife.... RC4 to take the Gerber's place on ya hip...

That Gerber, I believe, is actually their version of the Aircrew Survival Knife. Damn good knife, IMO.

Demoting it to truck knife was exactly my plan haha

Yeah it is a really great knife. I've been using it for a year now and it hasn't let me down, there are just other features I would prefer like no finger guards, a little bit shorter blade and something that isn't stainless steel. But the main thing making me want to replace it is the serrations, I'd much rather have a plain blade. For a pilot knife (which is what it's designed for) I think the serrations and stuff would probably be useful but for me I'd rather have a plain edge. The RC4 seems to fit my criteria. Won't be for a while though because I'm in college and can't seem to find a summer job at all.

I had one of those Gerbers before. I ended up selling it to buy some other stuff but I might pick up another one in the future. It always struck me a trusty beater. The idea of using it as a truck knife is a great one!

If I'm not mistaken there is a story behind this knife. It saved some soldiers lives or something like that. I read it in one of Gerber's ads. The handle is insulated also. This is the knife that the Ontario ASEK competes against in the market. If we electrically insulated the RC-5 handles (which we have discussed doing) then the RC-5 would also compete in that same market ;)

Yep, he cut a power line or something in order to shut off some lights to avoid detection. Something like that, pretty cool.

Before I was educated in the ways of the RAT I was seriously considering one of those Gerbers. I just couldn't get past the serrations though and ended up getting a Fallkniven F1.

I cant deal with serrations on anything. If I cant easily sharpen it, I dont want it.

The serrations on a RAT knife are designed so that you sharpen that area of the blade just the same as the rest of the blade. It's a very nice feature.
