What are the specifics for legal knife carrying. Does it follow the no more than 4 inches knife length like NY (only one sharp side, no switches, etc)?

Thanks!

No Dirks, Daggers, Stilettos, gravity or automatic knives. Size limitation is for sale to minors only, no blade over 5" or OA length of over 10". Basically in NJ, anything that can be construed as a weapon (damn near everything), has to have an 'explainable lawful purpose' for carry. Pretty discretionary on the part of the LEO as to whether or not you're good to go. Stay away from double edges, and be discreet, you should be alright. I've carried fixed bladed knives openly for over 20 years, including in a corporate environment, with (knock on wood), no problems ever, other than LEO's being curious about various customs I was carrying. I also stay away from knives with manufacturers names like 'ninja death dealer' :D

Almost forgot to say welcome to BFC! Lot's of great stuff to learn here!
