Don't know if this is old news but I handled a Umnumzaan with a born on date of June 28, 2012 this weekend and it had new style of Jimping. It's really nice like my Carbon Fiber Sebenza made in April of 2012, offering a lot of traction and bite. A definite improvement in my opinion over the lower traction Jimping of the previous style. I really like how CRK continually implements small improvements into the Umnumzaan since introduction. It just keeps getting better!

A pic to show what I'm talking about...

I like the Chris Reeve logo on the lock bar disc stop. It looks much better with the logo in my opinion. The jimping looks good too.

I like that, not sure if I like it more or less than the original machined grooves but it looks good.

Son of a... I got one from March of 2012 with the old style but new style disc with the logo which I like more. The older style blade is fine but I like the the catch on the sebenza 21's better so I may have liked that the newer style more. Ohh well!

old style looks good
seb style feels good

I like the new jimping-disk with logo on yours
S35VN I assume?

To me, the "older style" jimping matched more with the pattern on the scales

Man you're not lying, I've got an OG Umnum, which I love, but I almost feel like I need a new one because it's pretty much an entirely new knife!

Here's the ones I can think of:

1) Steel upgrade to S35vn
2) easier access to lockbar
3) easier access to offside thumb stud
4) lock bar stabilizer
5) different jimping
6) Idaho stamp (not really an improvement, but anyway)

I'd like to get all of that in a Wilson Starbust frame.

Damn, so many knives... so many knives, and so little time.

And it's more effective - the new pattern looks to be essentially the same used on the Sebenza which is spaced too closely and doesn't provide as much grip.

This isn't the case, it's definitely gripper than the old style. I handled them both side by side.

Newer Sebenzas, I have a Large Carbon Fiber 21 made in April this year, have more traction even though the jimping looks similar to what older Sebenzas use. There have been other threads on this. The new Umnumzaan Jimping is like the newer sebenza jimping.

I have 2 umnumzanns at the moment and will be looking to grab one with the new jimping when the opportunity presents itself, it's much better!
