I start a higher paying job on Monday. :) Glad too because I was getting screwed out on pay on my previous one and got screwed out on a old job right around Christmas a few years back. Was getting worried for my knife budget and keeping all I've acquired. I'm down to just a few safe queens now. Time to make a knife order. Maybe one day I can own a custom. Probably not but maybe.

Im so excited, I just can't hide it, I'm about to lose control and I think I like it.

Yes, congrats to you, but don't buy too much until you have a few paychecks in the bank. I've had many folders and quite a few customs...up to $800, but I prefer to carry a CRK large Sebenza or a Spyderco Slysz Bowie. I've found nothing that I consider "better" for my casual needs.

I recommend mid tech knives as well. More practical and you can use them without crying when they scratch. CRK’s are rocks that last a lifetime and easy to clean and are backed by decades of use. To me a work horse is worth more than ornate knife.

Congrats on the new job. And as someone stated above, don't go crazy buying staff. Excell spreadsheets are your friend. Make one, figure out your fixed expenses on a year round basis, save some as well and stick to this budget. You neve happen what's coming next!

About 2 years ago I left a job that I was underpaid and under appreciated at it has been great it was also about that time I got more interested in this and it became more of a hobby. My interest in knives blew up more do to increased free time than increased wallet size. I went from a job with a on call rotation to a job that has open and closed operating hours and I don't miss all that on call time. I agree don't go spending too much too soon get set them shower yourself with preciouses.

Open a separate savings account and put a set amount in each paycheck. After a bit you will have enough to get a really nice knife

I say buy all ya want!! Might get hit with a bus crossing the street going to work!!! John

Done the same about 8months ago. Now I try to only buy one every pay day or every two if I buy something expensive. Thinking about doing the don't buy unless I sell something first method

Congrats man! Always nice to improve your income.
As others stated, if you just put aside even $10-20 per paycheck, you'll have something nice in no time

Congrats! Any time you get a better job, you should treat yourself with some nice knives. If I were you and if I had not had them, I would buy a large and a small Sebenza with wood inlays. It is a bit over $1k in total and I say you well deserve them.;)

I would take the advice of other posters to not buy too many knives...you need to think about getting custom scales for the ones you have.

Congrats for the new job. Hopefully it will work out well for you. Do reward yourself AFTER you get paid. New knife? Sure. Go for it. Many customs/handmade knives aren't that expensive anymore except for the top makers. Tremendous amount of competition.
