Several months ago I ordered this Carving Axe. First, a confession. Hi! My name is Scooter and I'm an Axe-aholic. Or, at least a fledgling 'Axe-aholic' since I only have four Axes.;)

The JNT "Robin Wood Edition" Carving Axe is a beautifully fit and finished Axe. I would include images, but I have never figured out how to do it, so I've included links (see links below) to JNT. Besides, they have much better pictures than I could ever capture.

I could not have asked for a better purchasing experience. I was kept 'in the loop' during the entire process. When I first contacted Jekabs (the Founder of JNT) in April, I told him I would like to have the Axe by October. I've booked a Carving Class at the beginning of November and want to use it for the class. Jekabs said he would make every effort to meet my schedule. To my delight, JNT beat their original estimate by 2-months. In fact, the Axe arrived at my doorstep 2-days after my Birthday. A great Birthday present! FYI, JNT is now quoting 6 -12 month delivery.

As I've said, the Axe is beautiful. The edge is mirror polished and scary sharp. The Haft is straight-grained and shaped so the maximum energy is transferred to the apex of the Bit. You don't have to 'muscle' the Axe during the Throw to get a good Bite in the wood. It's a Bearded Axe, you can 'choke-up' on and get your hand behind the edge for detail work. It comes with a simple, but well-made and sturdy sheath. Weight is 1 lb-8.3 oz. Lighter than my Svante Djarv "Little Viking Axe" by 3.4 oz. Not a big difference, but it 'feels' much lighter. I attribute this to the Handle geometry. I think it distributes the weight more efficiently.

Overall, John Neeman Tools has exceeded my expectations. :)

This is the 'production' Axe.

The Carving Axe sold by Robin Wood is a drop-forged Axe made in China (I think?) and sharpened In the 'Sheffield' manner in the UK. John Neeman Tools has nothing to do with it. IMHO, it's one of the best and most affordable entry-level Carving Axes available.

The John Neeman Tools "Robin Wood Edition" Carving Axe was a collaborative effort between Jekabs and Robin. Robin has over 100 Axes in his collection and uses an Axe more in a week than most of us do in a year. He began his education in Forestry. The JNT 'Robin Wood Edition' Carving Axe is the culmination of those many years of knowledge.

I'm sorry, but I've never been able to attach pictures to a thread. And, don't want to download my images to a 'Drop Box'. It's too public. Old school, I guess.

Awfully good lookin tools from those folks, congrats! Go to flickr.com, make yourself an account and "upload" your pics (you can choose for them to be private). Go to "you" then "photostream", click the pic you want, click the little swoopy side-ways pointing arrow to "share", click BBC code, choose your size, copy the provided link, paste the link in your post.

i still don't have the photo posting thing figured out, maybe my daughter can help me this weekend.

No problem. Someone had to explain to me so I'm just passing it on. I should have also said, you don't have to use flickr, that's just the one I know how to navigate. :)
