New Junkyard Dog 2.2 hard to open

After admiring them for a long time, I finally ordered a Junkyard Dog 2.2 composite. I love everything about the knife except that it is hard to open. Flipping it with finger only (no wrist), I can barely get it more than half way open. I know this isn't a ZT, but I did expect opening it to be closer to my 0560 which is very easy to open.

I tried to disassemble it to see if there was something gumming it up. I removed the G10 scales, but couldn't get the liners off the pivot. I couldn't see anything holding them down, but even trying to twist them around the pivot, it would not release and I didn't want to apply too much pressure. What am I missing?

I tried to apply some Tuf Glide under the liners but it didn't seem to make much difference. It clearly wasn't that the pivot screw was too tight since it was just as hard to open with the screw completely removed. Are my expectations just too high? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

As the owner of the same knife, your case is definitely NOT normal. I can flip mine open with no wrist action while still having no blade play during lockup.

Can you feel any major resistance when opening the knife? Or is it fairly smooth? Do you have any other flippers?

Perhaps you just need a little practice flipping it with your finger.

if the pivot won't come ut of the liner then it probably got forced in too hard by acident during assembly somehow and got jammed in at an agle - that would account for it sticking, and also for problems flippin it open b/c it's not exactly perpendicular. You could email Kershaw about it, if they say the pivot should normally come out of the liner easily then it's clear this is a warranty issue.

Glad to hear this is not normal. Opening is smooth, no feeling of grit, but slow. There is clearly some sort of smooth resistance is not play. Yes, I have a few other flippers, both assisted and non. My favorites are probably a Needs Work (I love everything about that knife but the poly handles, I never expected to like a wharncliffe blade so much) and a ZT 0560. I have no problem flipping them. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks, Fishface, your suggestion makes a lot of sense. I am glad to hear this may just be a manufacturing problem. I will contact Kershaw for their advice. Thanks again.

Never mind, my question was answered.
