Well the 2-13 YBB just reached my office 5 mins ago. The box contained a 14 (and a smidge) inch village siru by HI's new kami, Ram. I was going to take pics, but they all came out blurry. Really, pics aren't needed. Most all of you have seen what villager models look like. This one is no exception, and that's a GOOD thing:)
Ok, the first question I know every one is going to ask, "What's his symbol?" Well it looks like Ram has chosen the classic "yin yang".
Now, on to how it "feels". Have you guys ever picked up a khuk and right off the bat said, "Man, this one wants to earn its keep"? This "little" siru feels like that. It's very solid in the hand. Ram has carved the rings straight and even. The handle length is very good for a villager. I would think that it would offer enough room for hands of all sizes. There is some cho creep, but nothing to lose sleep over. The grinds are even, the edge is "villager sharp" (sharp enough to use and toothy), the point is straight and even, the edge is straight as an arrow, and the buttcap is flush and well done. Ram has done a great job on execution:)
I kind of bought this khuk on a whim mainly because I was wanting a 15" Siru for awhile (i settled for 14";)) and I wanted to see Ram's work first hand.
I can tell you guys that the man knows what he's doing. If he does as good of a job on the standard models as he has on this villager, well the other kamis better watch their pecking order;)
I noticed in his pic that he is wearing a watch. Isn't that a sign of a good and well respected kami? One that has done well enough for himself that he can afford the "luxury" of a watch?
I'm really happy with this khuk. I'll sharpen it up a bit this afternoon and see if it likes to sing. I would think that this would make a great all around user/canoe knife. I can't wait to get to know this lil' devil a little better.
I think Ram is going to make a fine addition to HI's team. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.

Hm, good news reported, Jake. Still like to see a pic of the YY markings...

Got some Mora's from R yesterday- talk about sharp.

Maybe a tri-box today with something pointy in it. :D

Well after a quick dip in some muriatic acid, I have found out that Ram put a large sweet spot on this khuk. it runs about 3.5-4" from about 2" back from the tip to right even with the tip of the SOS. It also looks like the tip was given a little bit of treatment as well. So, if the etch means anything, then this khuk's edge should hold up pretty well to chopping. I took a few swipes down a sharpening steel to knock the bur off and see how edge really is. WOW! It got sharp. At first i thought it was just another wire edge, but i checked again. Nope. pretty flat and smooth. Just sharp. Oh, and i forgot to mention that Ram puts a Sher-like edge on his knives. All good things so far:)

Lame rationalization, Jake. If you are going to get your Master of Justification degree, you need to divert the responsibility for the purchase to some need other than your own, perferably implying, but not stating, something for the commonweal.

Kis, after all the fluffy kitten BS in the other thread I am driven to tell the truth about something for once. I was sworn to secrecy, but I guess I can let you all know. I mean, how many people actually read bladeforums? You see, a couple of nights ago President Bush called me on my cell phone. In most cases I would have humbled and honored that the Commander and Chief would have contacted me. unfortunately, at that exact moment I was free climbing my way down 60' cliff face to secure a wench to a basket in order lift some stranded orphans whose bus had careened off of the dangerous pass above. Don't worry. they're going to be AOK
Anyway, long story short. The Pentagon wants me to field a solo mission through the hills of 'stan in order to root out holed up terrorists. It appears that my reputation proceeds me. However, I was given a shoestring budget of just $75 dollars to complete my mission. Like many of us are here, when the chips are down I put my money in an HI product. Armed with only my new Ram siru, a roll of dental floss (for strangulation), and few googled pictures of fluffy animals, I set out tonight.
...However I did tell the Prez that I needed to be back by Saturday morning. It's Bren's birthday, and she wants to go to a winery. Yeah, yeah, I know. God and Country. But I don't sleep in the same bed with God or Country. Now you know the TRUTH....but don't tell anybody, ok?

"I've got this special 15" Sirupate........"

God I loved it when Bill Martino said that....

Jake, my friend?....this is one of those times when spell-check needed to be used. I'd edit the post, or hope to hell Bren doesn't read the H.I. Forum, or the birthday might take on additional significance.

Now, for the rationalization...try not to be too grandiose in your misdirection. As magnificent a warrior as you are, people may still be incredulous when they hear this story.

How are you going to spend $75 on SHOESTRINGS?

Again. Half as long.

Good review Jake. Good to know we got a winner kami to collect too. I wonder how many blades they'd have to pump out to saturate us to the point that stock would hang around?

Hi Jake:

I hope all your blurry pictures don'y mean the knife is cursed. Please be carefull.

Steely, you carry a heavy burden for our country.

George doesn't call me. He usually just stops by around happy hour for help with policy and his speeches. I am not allowed to tell you what we have decided to do to Iran.

What, George? Ok, I'll get us another round.

Gotta go.
