Well the 2-13 YBB just reached my office 5 mins ago. The box contained a 14 (and a smidge) inch village siru by HI's new kami, Ram. I was going to take pics, but they all came out blurry. Really, pics aren't needed. Most all of you have seen what villager models look like. This one is no exception, and that's a GOOD thing
Ok, the first question I know every one is going to ask, "What's his symbol?" Well it looks like Ram has chosen the classic "yin yang".
Now, on to how it "feels". Have you guys ever picked up a khuk and right off the bat said, "Man, this one wants to earn its keep"? This "little" siru feels like that. It's very solid in the hand. Ram has carved the rings straight and even. The handle length is very good for a villager. I would think that it would offer enough room for hands of all sizes. There is some cho creep, but nothing to lose sleep over. The grinds are even, the edge is "villager sharp" (sharp enough to use and toothy), the point is straight and even, the edge is straight as an arrow, and the buttcap is flush and well done. Ram has done a great job on execution
I kind of bought this khuk on a whim mainly because I was wanting a 15" Siru for awhile (i settled for 14"
) and I wanted to see Ram's work first hand.
I can tell you guys that the man knows what he's doing. If he does as good of a job on the standard models as he has on this villager, well the other kamis better watch their pecking order
I noticed in his pic that he is wearing a watch. Isn't that a sign of a good and well respected kami? One that has done well enough for himself that he can afford the "luxury" of a watch?
I'm really happy with this khuk. I'll sharpen it up a bit this afternoon and see if it likes to sing. I would think that this would make a great all around user/canoe knife. I can't wait to get to know this lil' devil a little better.
I think Ram is going to make a fine addition to HI's team. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
