Hey from out here in Kansas. I was kinda hoping some of you guys could help me out with a question I've got about the new knife preemption law that went into affect the day before last (HB 2033). I was looking the new law over and I got down to the part about the criminal carrying of a knife and etc. and there's a section on page 4 I believe it is, that deals with concealment. This new law legalizes all automatic knives, gravity knives, etc. among those there's dagger style knives and in turn underneath that section of the law in the concealment category it lists "dirks and daggers" as being crossed out. I also took a peak at the summery of legislation and it says that the law pretty much deregulates the carrying of knives here in Kansas  :)

My question to you guys is does this mean that I could legally carry a boot knife now without it being classified as a "concealed weapon"? I just bought a brand new Smith and Wesson H.R.T boot knife and I'd really like to know if I can legally start sporting that bad boy. :) Thanks!

From my own reading of the bill, yes that is correct. All knives are now legal to carry in Kansas! The remain laws only related to bludgeoning weapons and guns.

Alrighty partner I appreciate it! I just didn't wanna get patted down and get arrested ya know? Lol

Yesterday I was proudly wearing my BK9 about because I've been carrying pocket knives for years and got tired of it, not so much as a single question from anyone that saw it, not even the police who walked right on past me and had no way of not seeing it.

It's going to be interesting to see how LEO deal with switchblades in the neo-fascist Johnson County area.

Lots and lots of lawsuits raised against them, with the officers in question being deprived of legal immunity because even a simpleton can understand what HB 2033 is saying.

I just want to find a good in state auto retailer.

Im happy the law has changed for the better.

So what about when it comes to Cold Steel's new trench knife? It's a knife but the handle is still a knuckle duster. Legal to carry or not?

I had an interaction with Meeriam PD a few weeks ago. Apparently my tag "came up as stolen".

After 45 minutes on the side of I-35, I was approached, asked to remove my carry gun, set it in the passenger seat, exit the vehicle and meet them at the rear.

They asked if I had any other weapons, I pulled up the front of my shirt and exposed my Benchmade Infidel. The senior officer pullednit from my pocket, took one look at it and says " man, be sure you remind me to give this back...that's an awesome knife!"

They patted me down, the. He explained that his officer thought he smelled alcohol when he initially approached the vehicle. And as soon as the tag BS was cleared up, they got me out to get a closer smell.

I was released, shook all hands, and went along my merry way and hour later.

You've got to realize that not all cops are peckerheads. Very few actually are.

My read is the same and quite happy for it, I believe its spreading as Alaska recently adopted this measure as well ( at least for autos that is). Also like the fact that no city, municipality or county can "trump" this bill. After carrying them for years while in the Army it's nice to once again carry without them collecting dust in the footlocker.

I was doing some research on this topic today and was thrilled to find out that I can now carry balisongs now. I ve been wanting a BM 51 Morpho now I can carry and use it and not just look at it on the shelf.

It is easy to look the bills up on the KS GOV website. If you need the numbers of both the knife law, and gun law, I believe you can run an on site search. We can all thank Sen. Forrest Knox (forrestknox.net) for the changes in the concealed carry law. He has worked for several years on writing the new law, and getting enough support to get it passed and signed into law. He isn't finished yet. I suggested that he amend the law to cover doctor's office buildings, and other private buildings with no gun signs. The premise is the same. We are required to disarm, yet there is no one there to protect us.

I carried a Gerber boot knife for many years as a deputy sheriff. I am more than pleased with the changes in the concealed carry and knife laws. I would say yes. I do not know the length of the blade on your boot knife, but I always try to stay within the 4" length which has been in the statute for years. Carrying a 4" blade in your boot is no different than carrying a 4" blade pocket knife in your pants pocket. I think a 4" blade is quite adequate as a defensive weapon.
