My new Kershaw Leek arrived in the mail today from SrKnives in Canada. However when I opened the box, I noticed small brown specs on the handle of the blade. A bit on the front and some on the back of the handle (near the clip) as well. Some of it is coming off with some hard rubbing with a damp cloth. It isn't rust... How should I clean it off? and should I contact kershaw about it? or should I just forget about it.. My camera isn't working, I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow if needed..

I'd try the dealer first and see if you can get an exchange. Are they an official Kershaw dealer?

+1 on checking with the dealer. Sounds like you might have accidentally gotten a knife that someone returned.

Especially since you're in CAN it's more probable, at least in my limited experience. Hopefully you can get it worked out.

I called the company, they said that there was no chance that the blade was used on their end since they order the knives directly from Kershaw and because they keep all the knives in the box at their HQ... The blade itself seems to be in perfect condition. I'm just curious as to how this dirt got there. The company said that they would gladly replace it (they will pay shipping) if I want to. I am just wondering if it is worth the trouble..

the kershaw leek is beadblasted. this makes pits in the metal, making it easier to rust. happens to my knives from time to time. flitz it.

If it's gunk, use lighter fluid; if it's light surface rust, use flitz or even a big pink rubber eraser sometimes gets rid of it. If you have Bon-ami or Comet, make a paste on a paper towel by putting a few drips of water on the bon-ami/comet and rub off the rust that way. That's what I usually use.

Here are some pictures of it:

I am really too lazy to send the knife back. It was only 45 bucks to begin with. I contacted SR knives, and they rep was extremely nice there. He told me that since I don't want to go through the hassle of sending the knife back, he will credit me 15 dollars for my inconvenience. I would still like to remove these stains though lol

go out and buy some metal polish (flitz works well, also brasso). and follow the directions, and you will be good to go. that is some surface rust because of the beadblasting. get used to it if you plan on getting more kershaw knives.

My brother in laws leek had similar flecks of rust on it after some pocket time, and its been posted on here before that they sometimes arrive that way, no biggy just follow the instructions people posted for you should clean up great.

Alright, so I guess Il try taking off the spots myself. Thanks guys :D I will try metal polish. As long as this is normal, I don't mind
