A little bittersweet - I've followed HI on and off for the last 20 years, but the news last month of HI's closing finally gave me the kick in the butt to order a couple!

I am now the proud owner of an 18" AK and 21" Chitlangi :D

Now the question: the edge on the AK is pretty rough; almost looks like it was sharpened with a file or very coarse stone for the last 1/16" - By comparison, the Chitlangi's bevel is mirror finished all the way down to the very edge.

These are neither my first knives or my first khukuris, but they are my first HI's (yay!) So is this how they are? or did mine miss a step? was it repaired? or is this a "blem"?

Also a bit of recurve at the tip:

Definitely not up to their usual quality. The edge should be at least as good as the chit.

Good Afternoon, those knives are from old stock. They are fine knives.
My father resharpen the Ang Khola blade.

I wouldn't worry about it. mine get the same look depending on how I sharpen them. What I do now though is put them to a strop which is just a piece of leather, rough side up, glued to a board and set with polishing compound. Makes for easy sharpening and will take away the rough marks if you had to use something more aggressive beforehand.

Kenny, if you dont want it, I'll take it off your hands.

Your knife was sharpened by a real Gurkha! How khul is that! Might run the Chakma across it if it bothers you. The AK is for heavy chopping not fileting fish so that edge is just fine for its intended purpose.
