I did not want to spend a bunch of cash to get myself a new motor and VFD for a disc grinder so I made this one to fit on my KMG. Real simple, fairly inexpensive and I still get 2HP and variable speed.

The BladeForums.com 2024 Traditional Knife is ready to order! See this thread for details:
https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/bladeforums-2024-traditional-knife.2003187/
Price is $300 $250 ea (shipped within CONUS). If you live outside the US, I will contact you after your order for extra shipping charges.
Order here: https://www.bladeforums.com/help/2024-traditional/ - Order as many as you like, we have plenty.
This is a neat idea, if you're just using it to flatten handle and guard material I think it would work great.
However, if you're gonna use it to help flatten flat grinds..... in order to maximize use of a disk like this it really needs to be reversible and free from obstructions. It wouldn't work for the way that I work as I'd be hitting the motor when trying to grind from the left side of the disk.
You could push the shaft through a little more and move the disc to the other side of the "idler" wheel to provide the efect of changing rotation. Or even mount a second wheel so you could have one on either side. Now that would be really cool!
That is great! Just awesome! The KMG begs for home brew stuff like this. We need to start a thread where all of us that like to build stuff for our machines can show off our ideas in one place. Wheel adaptors, work rests, special tool arms....All would be welcome.![]()
