So I want to get a new knife for my dad. It would be an edc for him. I currently have a kershaw cyclone, which my dad sort of likes, but he feels is too big. So, I want a new knife that is smaller and lighter than the cyclone, but is still good. It is for his birthday so I will spend up to about $150. I need good steel, that can hold a very sharp edge and endure some wear and tear because I doubt my dad will be the most careful person about using the blade. Also it can't look to tactical or army like because he isn't really into that kind of thing.

Any suggestions?

Thank you guys so much.

Is that an ao blade? Another thing that I think he wants is ao. I know the bm is ao, but not sure about the warden. Thanks

The Warden's AO alright; it opens up very, very fast. Some may even say it does it so fast it doesn't need to do it at all ;)

Also, the Benchmade is not AO either  it's just a standard Axis lock.

if he likes the cyclone but feels it is too big then get a mini-cyclone. The zdp mini is a heck of a knife.

You might also want to check out the kershaw blur. You can find them with s30v blades for about 90 (i think)

You might also want to check out the benchmade 672 apparition. It is an ao with D2 steel and can be found for around $100. just make sure you get the 672 with the all G10 handles and not the 670 with plastic handles.
The game warden is a fixed blade.

I often carry the Blur... the ao is very good and it's handle has recessed sandpaper grips that make it easy and secure to deploy. You could do a lot worse at a lot more money.

I am also going to vote for the Mini-Cyclone with ZDP-189 & Titanium as well.

If he likes your Kershaw, why not just get one of the smaller AO Kershaws?

Leek, Scallion, or Chive.

Does he do a lot of rough stuff in his daily life, or is this more for opening packages, cutting string, etc? If it's light stuff, the little Kershaws are great and aren't heavy or tacticool. But he AO operation is pretty cool and gadgety.

If you want to get an extra-nice Kershaw, there are outfits like Santa Fe Stoneworks that make Leeks and Cives with scales out of lapis-lazuli, and other ornamental stones.

A year or two back I saw a Chive on eBay that had bone grips, with a scrimshawed sketch of Wyatt Earp. That would be uber-awesome.

Does anyone have any idea who might put bone, stag, or antler scales onto Chives and Leeks? It would make an already cool knife simply awesome.

With a Chive or Leek running $35-50, you could probably afford some awesome grip material, and maybe even some basic scrimshaw or engraving, and still make your $150 budget.

A Kershaw Scallion is a great smaller knife, if the Blur is too big. Consider also getting him a great folder made of S30V hi-tech steel - the Spyderco Native - Wally World $39.48! Heck, they have standard bladed Blurs, Scallions, and Chives, too! He may really appreciate a nice pair - and you could still save money. Believe me, a Scallion is often in my watch pocket - and that Native is in my back pocket.

And another vote for the Mini Cyclone Ti/ZDP...Great knife for the $$$, right at your budget.

what about a G10 Leek? the stonewashed version is pretty sexy :). I have always liked that knife. AO, very thin, very light, G10 handle, good blade steel(s30v).

edit-forgot to add they are around $80
