Ok, I so broke down and replaced my old benchmade/emerson that I have carried since forever, or at least 94. (honestly, it has been that long?) I replaced it with a black blur 1670blkst. This is my first Kershaw and so far I’m pleased with it. My only real problems, concerns, were the traction grip possibly wearing off, and I had to break out the torx bits to flip the clip(like that was a hardship). The speed safe took a little getting used to. But frankly I don’t see how I have gone this long without it. I’m also wondering how susceptible this system is to grit and other debris? I work in an aluminum foundry finishing grinding parts etc. So you can see why I might be worried about this.

Thx

I work around a lot of aluminium dust and composits also and whether I have my Storm, Spyderco Native, or cheap Merco I clean them all (not every day). I have had no problems with the grit wearing off of my storm 2 although it is not a Blur the grit looks similar to me. Any way I hope that helps. :)

The traction aid should hold up for quite sometime. It is a little hard on the edge of your pocket but it does the job well and seems to be quite stable. As for the grit getting into your knife, I would suspect that you may have a little trouble with this but nothing normal regular cleaning won't take care of. The torsion bar is kind of tucked out of the way and (someone correct me if I am wrong) is not really exposed so this shouldn't be much of a problem. If you do have torsion bar failure at any point in the future Kershaw will send you bars free and help installing them can be had either here or from the company. If you don't feel comfortable with it you can mail it to them and they will fix it and have it back to you PDQ.
