Might spend some funds today on a knife, thinking The Bark River Tope Recon, BR Grizzly or a distant 3rd Bravo 2.
Will be a camp/fishing/ bring hunting knife(will clean fish with a Mora!), mainly splitting small wood for a gasification stove, food prep and a hunting game knife(AND showing up my knife challenged buddies, loll!!!). I like to cut hide with a bigger knife in 3v(pigs are so muddy sometime), then cut flesh with a smaller knife(3.5 to 4 inchish) clean knife. Won't see much chopping, but needs to fill a defensive role as well(backup, always had a 6-8 inch blade in the Military)
I'm awaiting for the rummered handle change with the bravo 3 before I buy a big 25 oz chopper. Hence the Bravo 2 in the 3rd position. Bravo 2 in 3v only $250 I was thinking deer field dressing, but the thick .220 spine will hang up a little splitting the chest. My convex .125 GNS splits hogs really well when the chest needs split, haven't tried on a deer yet(deer season is almost HERE)
I'm leaning toward the tope, less than .200 inch steel, stronger tip, but will it penetrate really well like the Grizzly. The Grizzly has a thinner tip(but huge spine), but I don't want to break it off battoning.
I don't have a Tope or Kohler, but I like the designers!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someday, today only one.
I don't think either the Tope Recon or Grizz will suck. Both $325 ish, but the tope's are selling fast, and I need to deposit some cash at the bank first, so 4 hours needs to elapse. The Grizzly's don't seem to be in stock often, and I think they are on a final run, but I've seen them on here once and a while(always high priced though)
Someone bought the Green Micarta Recon with orange liners already, Nice score, hope a bladeforum peep got it!!!!
Thoughts?
Not much on youtube on the Tope recon yet, I like the youtubers to abuse the blade, so I don't have to test it, lol.
