Last week I got a Gentleman Jim and I am very happy with it. I dont know what exactly makes it feel so tough compared to all the other g-10 liner locks I've had, but the shape and thickness of the handle, the minimal blade exposure when closed, the grippy g10, the narrow but sturdy blade all give me an impression of a rugged but refined knife (design). It has a different vibe compared to the Benchmade/Kershaw/Spyderco knives I've had, and I'm thinking I'll need to get another sometime soon. :D

Anway, the G10 and tight clip are giving me some trouble. Even when I loosen the clip, I feel this G10 is going to rip up my pants. Any advice?

And the obligatory pic, with one of my other favorites: spyderco chaparral :D

i recently got a horseman, and feel the same way. the knife has good "heft" to it for a solid feel, which i really like. but its not too heavy such as my ZT200.

the clip on my horseman was extremely tight, and required extra effort getting it in and out of my pockets. and if pants werent thick/stiff such as jeans, it seems to want to tear my pockets right off my pants while trying to clip it on.
i tried bending the clip alittle, but it didnt help much.

i ended up switching the clip with my mini A-100, which has a much smoother G-10.
the tight clip with my smoother mini A-100 can still slide in and out of the pockets without problem.

if you have other BM clips, or can get BM clips. some of those will work on emersons.

some have also suggested sanding the area of G-10 where the clip rests on. but i like the looser clip option more.

btw, my horseman came with very good fit and finish. centered blade, and solid lock-up. alittle gritty, so i cleaned and lube, and now is very smooth.

I find the clips loosen up and the texture gets a little pocket wear so it will smooth out also. dont do anything too extreme until you give it some time.

Congratulations on your new knife! That Gentleman Jim is very unique!

I recently got a new Emerson - CQC10 - and the clip was too tight. I took it off and put it back on but didnt tighten the screws too much. Its fine now. Still grips but I'm fine with that. Better that than a lost knife.
