Hey, new here, just found out about the forums a while ago.

I just purchased a Microtech SOCOM Elite, with no serrations, Tanto with Chisel Grind, model 117-22, which has the DLC coating.

I'm not sure I've seen too many knives with this grind before, and now am wondering if I made a wise choice. According to wikipedia (taken with a grain or two of salt), this grind can possibly be sharper than others, but I wonder if the usefulness of the grind is limited because it is only ground on one side?

Anyway, just wondered what the more seasoned people thought. I'm hoping to get a EdgePro Apex for Father's Day to keep the rest of my collection sharp...right now, the other 4 knives don't even pass the paper test, and I had no idea they weren't sharp...tells you what I know.

I like a single side grind but when cutting it will tend to twist to one side but thats only in heavy materials. I don't have a edge pro but I want one, they seem like a very nice sharpening system the only thing I would change is the finishing step. Skip the ceramic rod and take the edge to a 2000 or 6000 grit finish then strop on leather with some diamond compound, a knife is not truly sharp until the bur is gone.

Well, got it today. A bit strange, the chisel grind, but overall, I think it's awesome. Even larger than I thought it would be, which is cool. Fit and finish of it is like no other knife I've ever had, which isn't saying a whole lot, but I'm really impressed with the construction, and how light the knife is. The blade is nice and thick, and almost weighs more than the handle, or possibly it does slightly.
