My new "California-Friendly" EDC.
- SF (where I live), doesn't have blade length limit for manual/assisted folders
- Berkley/Oakland (where I visit), appears to have a 3in blade length limit

It arrived rather greasy and the action was somewhat "gritty". After a quick disassembly, cleaning, and "oil-change" with flouro grease, this knife opens up as smooth as my Sebenza. The blade is centered perfectly and has a sound detent which results in a fast deployment. The ergos definitely rival the PM2, and I absolutely LOVE the ramp and choil jimping.

Absolutely no rough-spots or hard edges on the CF scales. This knife would be absolutely perfect with G-10 scales (never was a huge fan of CF).

You actually have G10 scales technically. The carbon fiber is just the top layer of the scales and the layers underneath are G10.

You're right! Yea, that CF layer has got to go. I've never been a fan of that "dressy-techy" CF look. It always reminds me of something I would get out of a Brookstone store...

Yep I love my Sage 3. It was my first bolt action lock. Everything about the knife is perfect.

But the CF makes the Sage 1 more Cali-friendly. Why? Because it's purty ;)

The Sage 1 is my office carry here in L.A.

love my sage 1 and the CF scales, I bought it for going to dinner or anything dressy. It's the knife I carry to church and I've been caught fiddling with it during service.......I think God appreciates a purdy knife!

I like it just fine, but am drawn to the full titanium of the Sage 2.
Different strokes. ALL of the Sages are nice.

Awesome knife, I have both Sage 1 and 2.

They are a bit "dressier" than the PM2 and serve that purpose nicely.

And great ergos, IMO.

The Sage 1 might be my favorite Spyderco. A thin, light liner with a grippy CF scales; it has the most pocket time of any of my Spydies.

I was really torn between the Sage 1 and the 2. Opted for 1 because the 2 would have created some overlap with my Small Sebenza 21. Now handling the Sage 1, I can only imagine the quality of the Sage 2 (and how it could easily send my Sebenza 21 to the "For Sale" forum).

I am still blown away by the performance of the Sage 1. It's such a FAST knife.

I had the same problem. Opted for the 1 but worried that the titanium might have held up better than the CF (this is the only carbon fiber anything I own). This turned out to be a complete non-issue. Every time I think I've scratched the CF (like tonight), it turns out that the "scratch" is something from my keys or whatever that's rubbed off onto the CF not an actual scratch through. That's some tough stuff.

If you do get the Sage 2 and decide you don't prefer it, just send it to me and I'll find a home for it. Otherwise, just send the Sebenza. :D

I have this blade too. It was my first Spyderco. I disliked the smaller size and the smaller diameter deployment hole. I still use it around the house.

I then got the PM2. I've since lost it.

Both San Francisco and Oakland have a 3" blade length limit. However, from my limited understanding, a con of going with a 3" blade as the sage 1 is it's pretty easy to say it exceeds the 3" limit just on how it's measured. I suppose it depends on how lucky you feel. Emerson markets 2.75" knife that pretty much keeps you safe under the limit while still being substantial. Read last 3 sentences of first paragraph

But I suppose if you keep the knife concealed, then who's going to know you have it. The other positive is they usually throw such a violation just to sweeten the pot on the primary violation if they're going to charge you.

I mainly carry the BM 940 series these days but the Sage 1 will always have a place in my modest collection. What a great design at a decent price.

Great design in every way, and one of my favorites for sure.
I think the Spyderco wire clip is my favorite over any. I bought some of the tempered one's while they were still being made.
It stays in the pocket well, and goes in the pocket well no matter what type of pants(jeans/shorts/warm-up's) you have on.
