I noticed the new knife display in a local walmart yesterday, and they had several nice looking traditional pattern bucks.I am interested in the large stockman with birch wood handles. It was listed at $19.99 which makes me wonder where it is being produced?they didn't have any in stock so I was unable to tell for sure.Does anyone know if these are made in the U.S..I hate to see any of bucks production going to taiwan or china. It tarnishes the reputation of a fine american company.I know it may be a good business decision but I still don't like it.just my opinion.

Johnny11758, any new knives in the case??

The only new ones at my Wal-Mart I noticed were the large birchwood stockman and the standard Prince. I was hoping that the stockman would have the new Idaho stamp. Oh, well.

I think I will just save my money for a model 55.I like it better anyway.thanks for answering my question

This is gonna be good!

I handled the Buck birchwood stockman at Wal-Mart. The main blade is stamped "China." Good fit and finish. But I would never buy it. The Chinese goverment is very oppressive (to be as polite as one can be). The things the Chinese government does to the people of China are unconscionable. I am disappointed that Buck does business with China.

The entire 'stockman' group at Wal-Mart is made in china. We've had a couple of threads dealing with this already.

I got a chance to check out the large stockman at walmart today.I examined 4 of them and I have to say they are exactly what I expected for the price, weak uneven back springs, poor grinds, the handles almost felt like they had no stain or varnish on them, dull and rough in appearance, not worth $20 in my opinion. There was a time not long ago when I considered buck quality to be such that you could buy sight unseen and always get a good knife, that no longer seems true ,at least not for the ones made overseas.I still hold out hope for the model 55,It looks like a great carry knife.
