New Knife for a New Car

Okay, so I just bought a '97 Saturn, dark green, and now I need a new knife to commemorate it. It's in great shape and has only one dent on the hood. It is smooth, and has very sleek lines. The knife can be a folder or fixed blade. I was even considering a wakizashi, but the store was out. I will probably be keeping this in the car, or at least be wearing it while driving. The car also gets great milage, so the knife should have good edge retention to parallel that. Remember that this is a used car, so let's try to keep the knife price under $100.
Thanks, and I look forward to reading your suggestions.

Last weekend i bought a Cold Steel Peacekeeper 1 to go with my new Toyota Corolla

Granted, the 7 inch blade won't go along as often as the Peacekeeper 2 with it's shorter blade, but i just really wanted it.

I like to carry a fixed blade in the car as a deterrent to "smash-and-grabbers". For those unfamiliar with the term, in SA we have criminals who will smash your windows in peak hour traffic to grab your cellphone, handbag, leather jacket etc.

I don't think you will face similar predators, so maybe a nice folder by Spyderco, Cold Steel or CRKT might just be the ticket :)

I keep a 5" modern-style Mora fixed-blade in the trunk of my '98 Saturn, but I think you want something a bit slicker ;)

I think this would make a good car knife. Nice to have around in case you are in an accident and your seat belt jams.

i agree with having a multi-tool in the car.
maybe you need a green Leatherman Micra? $26 from AG Russell.

perhaps you could pull off one of the Leatherman Juice models in their new "storm" color.

*shrug*

i just went thru this same thing last month when i got my '97 Sunfire in a blue-ish color. i've yet to decide, so good luck!

I don't think that will be a problem. The car will blow up before he even gets the idea to get out. :D ;) :) In any case, any type of Spyderco should do the trick.

I have a dark green 99 saturn and it has a cheap ,but sharp, machete sitting in the trunk along with an old GI issue shovel. OD was as close as I could get to matching :D :D

DO NOT KNOCK THE CAR!!! OR MY CAT-LIKE REFLEXES THAT ARE UNSURPASSED BY ANY MORTAL MAN!!! ...OR CAT. CAT'S HAVEN'T SURPASSED MY REFLEXES EITHER.
so watch yourself.

Hi All-

Regarding keeping knives in the car....if it is a folder, make sure it's in a sheath secured to the inside of the glovebox with double-sided velcro. Fixed blades are a no-no in the cabin because stuff goes flying EVERYWHERE unpredictably in an accident.

A knife clipped to a visor, gearshift, or center console won't be there after a serious impact. A one-handed folder is best kept in your pocket. I have a sheathed Busse Steel Heart in a locked box in the trunk should I encounter a wreck where people need assistance.

Great choices include the Spydercos suggested or possibly a BM Griptillian to adhere to your pricepoint. Let us know how it goes and good luck with the new car!

I've pulled someone out of a burning car once... I just happened to be there... the girl had no idea the car was burning.. I hear it's common to not know that the car is burning.

A green car needs a green Benchmade 551 Griptilian to go along with it.

Yup. Especially if you're unconscious. :p

Well instead of taking any of your suggestions, I ordered a Bob Lum Tanto from Spyderco. I didn't actually ignore you guys. In fact, I thought that a lot of you had some pretty good suggestions. You all did make me set on buying a Spyderco. I don't need the knife specifically for in case of accidents. On the contrary, I have a fully serrated delica all the time should I need to cut seatbelts (i'ts my everyday left handed knife). This tanto more commemorates this auto purchase more than it does prepare me for something. Hell, I'm never with out 3 knives on my person anyway.
Well, it's almost 2am. Thanks for all the help.
