Though I do not really consider myself in that group, if I were the owner I could certainly see myself gutting and skinning a deer with it, at least once.

There are schools of thought that believe that hand made art and artifacts are infused with the good will/energy of the maker, and therby strenghtening the user/weilder and protecting them from harm and foul. with that reasoning I'd use and carry the hell out of that beauty.
