I made this knife over the weekend from a Dodge truck leaf spring. The blade is slightly under 5/16" thick and 8" long. The false edge is not sharpened.
Triple quenched, triple tempered. The blade finish is sanded down to 320 grit, etched in ferric chloride several times, and polished with green scotchbrite. Because of the blade shape, the temper line (which is slightly visible), runs straight down the middle of the blade.
I was very pleased with the quality of the steel. It was very clean. The heat treat gave me a nice edge that flexes over a brass rod and comes right back without any deformation.
This is my test user. Of course, again, slightly Bagwellian. What I like most about this one is the octoganal ferrule on a stag grip.
Now for a lie........... This knife is SO sharp, that when I pulled it from the sheath, the mere shadow of it lopped off the kitchen table leg before I could reach up and turn off the light!
