New knife I am very pleased with the results

I emailed Derek to make contact and we put a knife together. Here it is, it's awesome!

It's made of forged 01 steel with hand made micarta by a fella Derek knows.


Derek Goodson was great to work with making sure I was going to be happy with the results, several emails went back and forth, it's was worth the time. Check out his website he makes various knives that all look good to me!

Look like a good user.... tell us more about it.... what are the measurements? you going to skin a bear with it up there in Canada?

Overall length: 12.75"
Blade length: 6.875"
Blade thickness: .1875"
Blade steel(s): O-1 high carbon tool steel
Finish: 1200 grit handrubbed
Grip material(s): Mark Nelson burl/rag micarta
Guards/pins: Stainless steel
Sheath: Brown 8-9 oz. leather pouch style

The grip size measuring from the start of the micarta:
top side 5 1/4" bottom side 4 3/4" plus another 1/4" from the guard to micarta

It is a big solid sheath knife. It arrived in perfect condition, quality of workmanship is awesome, no scratches or defective areas anywhere. It is razor sharp, I can cut a sheet of paper with it, unreal. It will be put to good use!

I liked Derek's Large Walnut hunter and we made adjustments from there to make it all work. He suggested going with a micarta handle because we get allot of rain up here, about 5 months of rain with 3 months really pours.

I am going to find that big black bear that chased me all the way back to the truck, maybe he'll turn and run this time.

I am glad that you guys like the micarta. It was a pleasure to work with Mr. Goodson. I have to come clean here. While I liked the piece of micarta that I made a great deal I was not sure if it was the exact look that both Derek and the customer were looking for. I am more then pleased that both of you were happy with it.:D. Thanks again for the kind words.
