That's great Yandgu. I think it adds to the knives as they do it very neatly and it is a fitting tribute. I do wish that they would forgo the ugly "L.B." and "S.B." and "K.M." markings in favor of the beautiful script that they use on the Villagers. Their individual sun and moon and cross, etc. markings are very nice as well.
But at this point all mine have them of course (except for the Villagers and the Sgt. Karka knives) so it's just a wish for the future.
I think it's a marking thing as they take justifiable pride in their hard work, but the script is perfect in it's own right, along with the "H.I." script markings on the blades, their own signs, and now the "U.B." on the back side. They don't need the other.
Reminds me of when my wife got me a book embosser 20 years ago. I ran around embossing everything; beautiful leather first editions, 100 year old collectibles, everything. Now I look at them and groan! What a freakin' idiot!
STUPID!!! I decreased the value of some of my books by 30% by doing that, not to mention making them look damned ugly in most cases. It's like taking an engraver to the side of your revolver and carving in your initials. I haven't done that to my books in years; book plates are fine, embossers are forever.
(FYI, believe it or not a 1st ed. of Clancy's "Hunt for Red October" from 1984 is easily worth $1500. He was just starting out at the time as an unknown first author so very few were sold. I bought one just for something to read in '84 for $14.95 at the local bookstore and kept it mint. Then happily embossed it! Showed it to a dealer last year who was slobbering all over it till he saw my seal on the fly page and promptly dropped his price by $400! Oh, well, all I can say is it seemed like a good idea at the time. The irony is that if I become very famous, the embossed seal will actually ADD a ton to the value, but that is not very likely!

So who knows? Maybe the "L.B." on Bura's knives will be desirable some day? And then again... )
Sorry for the slight OT.
Regards,
Norm
