I presented my 1st grandchild, a sweet little 6 pound baby girl, a new 7" Ka-Bar last night. She was just under an hour old.

Any suggestions for Christmas?

A full-size Kabar! I wouldn't be surprised if the knife was as big as your grandchild :D

If only someone in my family got me hooked on knives at that age. ;)

Depends on what both her parents think. I would guess that your offspring would understand and appreciate your gift. How about the spouse?

If there is parental unrest with the knife thing, Moms (and properly trained Dads) appreciate certificates for diaper service.

I received my first Swiss Army Knife when I was 7 years old. I'm disappointed you didn't start with that instead of a fixed blade.

Oh, I get it. Fingernails not strong enough.:D

.

Yeah, she is so small at 6 pounds. Fits in my hand. Has a good grip and was able to hold the KaBar resting it on her stomach.

Both parents OK with knives and guns. Suprised them with the knife, but have mom's OK to teach her how to shoot, etc. I have a real neat 22 pistol with holster and cartridge belt for her when older...

Swiss Army knife a good idea...

Life is good!

the kabar good idea but a little to big to cut baby food for christmas try a swiss army knife or a case bubba gum when she gets bigger she will love the pink

OUTSTANDING! A true American hero! Sharp knives and guns to the young'uns and a Ford man too! (too bad they're making decisions like a 6-month old and losing stock faster than water runs through cheesecloth. Shame.)

I truly regret waiting until my little gal was eight before giving her a Victorinox SAK for Christmas followed by a Bark River mini-Canadian for Easter. She can start a fire with her mini-Canadian and a mag-flint, from start (gathering) to finish (complete wood fire). I wish I'd started sooner!

Welcome to BladeForums (((:D)))

Thanks for the kind words Stretch. Sounds like your young'un has made up for lost time.

My ford is a 1969 stock reconditioned. My little granddaughter is going to love riding shotgun...

It's starting to look like a SAK for Christmas and I like your idea for the Bark River. Yeah, every holiday is just an excuse to get her one more fine piece of sharp metal.

oops, forgot the bubba gum knife... absolutely, she will have a fine collection of pink blades one day. Matter of fact I'm trying to find pink pearl handles for her pistol as well...

My daughter is a mere 15 months, but when she's old enough (?), She'll get a SAK Huntsman that I saved for and bought when I was a kid. Then we'll go from there.

Right now she's obsessed with farm tractors after a visit to my dad's place in Michigan (he's got an old Allis-Chalmers and a Ferguson). Noisy things with motors is another interest I's like her to cultivate!

Amen to noisy things with motors. Fast driving and running over stuff is what little girls are made for. Her dad is a dirt biker and has a very large and angry mudder. Naturally a EDC tool package will be in her future.

I think a knife-collector father should ask for and retain the scalple used to cut the baby's cord. They're disposable. A quick swish in alcohol will elliminate any risk of infection. Of all the knives a knife collector might wish to have, the one that brought him into the world would be high on the list.
