New knife opening problem

Hi everyone,
My first post, so If I posted this question in the wrong place sorry.

I ordered brand new Hen and Rooster Whittler knife, and I recieved it today. The question I have is this... Is it normal for a new knife to be extremely difficult to open. I basically ripped my thumbnail to pieces opening the biggest blade. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would say a 10 is how tough this it to open. I looked at the knife and can't see any dirt, grim or rust to restrict it.

I added some mineral oil and tried to work it back and forth a while, but this thing is super tight. I am by no means a knife expert. I actually don't know much at all. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. CHeers
