When you get a new knife and it has some issues such as scratches, pitting, rolled edge etc what do you do? Just live with it or return it?

I just received a new custom knife with a single pit the size of a small pin hole on the handle which doesn't bother me that much but the and the edge is rolled by the tip. Should I return it or am I just being picky? Should I just sharpen it out?

Pitting out of the box is a no. Dull I can deal with. If the pitting displeases you, send it back. My opinion.

For me it depends on how bad the flaws are and how hard the knife was to acquire.

As for the second part, that's up to you.

Pitting, scratches and rolled edges are what I would consider "finish" issues, not "fit" issues. For a user, I am usually fine with finish issues like those. It would have to be pretty terrible for me to send it in.

"Fit" issues are a much bigger deal to me.

What is the knife? Type and cost of knife will determine many things about your out-of-box experience.

Is the handle a natural product like wood or horn? If so, it may have holes or small cracks that do nothing to harm the performance of the knife. It may be a different matter if it the material was man-made or a metal.

Rolled edge? Just sharpen it.

Scratches, depends on whether the knife was made to be a "user" or a "display" piece.

Sorry for not being more specific. It is an all metal D2 neck knife in the 100 dollar range.
