New knife quandary. Which one? $400ish limit.

Well, fairly new to knives. Started off with Bucks,... liked them. Recently, I guess you could say I upgraded and bought myself a more expensive knife, a Swamp Rat -Rat Trap, really like it, thin profile, nice quality feel. I'm hooked.

Now I have some extra money coming my way in a month or two. Maybe around 400ish. I feel like being naughty and not telling the wife and getting myself a new knife, a special knife. I've been obsessing on this not knowing which way to go.

I've been finding myself window shopping at www.knifeart.com. I've seen a few knives that I really like:

One is the Ryan Wilson Combat Elite: http://www.knifeart.com/eltacfol.html

The other is the Jungle Combat by Andre DeVillers: http://www.knifeart.com/comtacfol.html

oh, another one by Peter Marzitelli that I just noticed: http://www.knifeart.com/exmarjettacf.html

I wonder if I am heading in the right direction. Am I going overboard? Should I back off, not blow all my cash on one knife, and maybe back off and get a few Benchmades, or a few Spyderco's, or maybe a handful of Bucks.

A big part of me wants a knife that is unique, special, a knife that the maker sweated over, bled over, poured his heart and soul into,.....and not massed produced by the thousands. Some of the artists on Knifeart.com limit their knives to 25. That appeals to me.

Any input?

You have great taste in knives with those you have mentioned. You might want to consider a large Classic Sebenza with wood inlays. These are beautiful knives with a lifetime of use built in to them.

Art, you must have been reading my mind. A Sebenza with wood inlays flashed through my mind as a possibility.

Hi All-

You won't have too many choices around $400.00 for a quality folder. Good luck in your search.

I have to echo Art on the Sebenza! I got a websight Sebenza some months back. It is awesome! What a slicer! You can get a Seb in so many variations that it will make your head spin. Check them out.

Looks like two of the knives you were looking at are liner locks and one is a frame lock. I'd go with the Ryan Elite because of the lock.

You won't regret a Sebenza, and GarageBoy's suggestion is a great one as well. It's always best to handle before you buy, especially when spending that much money. Also, I HIGHLY recommend just going all out and getting one nice knife instead of 2 or 3 OK ones. I used to do that and now wish I had just saved up to get the really good ones I always wanted. If you want the really good stuff now, buying lesser knives won't scratch the itch.
