I'm new here, so I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed to death. I'm in the market for a new knife to be my go to EDC blade and was hoping I could get some insight from this community. I'm currently looking at the SOG Aegis, Kershaw Blur with s30v blade steel, Benchmade Griptillian 551, Zero Tolerance 0350, and the Spyderco Native. I have about $100 to spend and want something that will take and keep an edge, and won't give me a lot of problems as I'm constantly using a knife throughout my day. Thanks in advance everyone.

I would say the Native and the S30V Blur would be my top picks, with the Aegis on the bottom. What type of use would it see might help get you better answers.

*Also make sure you have a way to sharpen it.

It would be a general use knife. I work outdoors and need something that will stand up to daily use/punishment. Everything from opening boxes to cutting lengths of rope. I think I'm leaning towards the Blur and the Native, but I'm not all that comfortable with the Spidie hole. Did you find it to be something you had to get used to?

I open my Spydercos with my thumb so there was almost no learning curve for me when I started with them. The hole is also usually much better placed for comfortable and reliable openings than many thumbstuds are, although I had no problem with my Blur at all. I just don't like AOs.

Honestly, though, for what you're describing you may want to consider a small FB like an ESEE, a Becker, or a BRKT. They can easily be pocket carried or carried horizontally on your belt where they're out of the way and out of sight.

I second Bill's recommendation that you get good sharpening gear to go with the knife. If it's in constant use, it WILL need sharpening.

I would get the Native 5 or a Spyderco Paramilitary 2. I would also look at the Benchmade 940. Good Luck! Kevin :D

The Spydie hole makes for easy, smooth openings for me. I'd look at the all stainless Delica for about $70.

That being said, since you work outdoors, you really ought to look at a smaller fixed blade like the ESEE 3, Bark River Gunny or similar knives.
