ok guys,
i have been carrying a CRKT M16 zytel (http://www.crkt.com/M1603Z) with the combo edge for the past year and a half (amazing for me), and i have finally lost the knife. it was a great knife, i went through 3 pocket clips on it (crkt has free replacement clips), and put it through hell, and it just kept on going like nothing was wrong

anyways

i need a new one, and dont know where to begin to look.

i loved the CRKT's handle and blade, and thought about ordering one of their new ones.
We bought one for a cousin of mine on a recommendation from me, and i carried it for a couple days, and cant stand it, their AutoLAWKS system, and cant stand it, i rarely have my knife open long enough for it to be worth using, and with it, i cant manage to shut it with one hand

so i am looking for a new knife

what are some recommendations, taking into account an approximate 100 dollar price range (can go to 150 if i need to), the design of the m16 and any other information you have picked up on, as well as i have been carrying a buck rush which i hate because of the handle

PS: would it be possible to take out the auto lawks system?

any input would be appreciated

i forgot, i like the design on how you can open the knife with one hand with the lever on the back

i would prefer another knife with this feature

Try and find yourself a ZT 0350 or a 0200. Both knives are very well made, they have strong locks, come razor sharp, and are high quality with an unbeatable warranty. They also have the flipper for quick deployment.

what brand are these? so i can look them up?

never mind, i figured it out

i checked them out, they seem to have a fat blade design, i would be open to them, but i would have to hold them and use them for a little while

any recommendations for narrow blades?

Kershaw is pretty much the only game in town when it comes to affordable flipper designs. Sure there are lots of others that use it, but as far as economy is concerned, Kershaw and Zero Tolerance (ZT) is the leader. Why do you think you would prefer a narrow blade over something a little wider?

it is what i am used to, and the wider blades seem to make the handles a lot wide, and i like the narrow handles a little better
and because i personally can control a narrow blade better

Kershaw skyline. Done. End of story.
But really- It's cheaper, it has the flipper design, it comes extremely sharp, it has a thin Sandvik 14c28n blade, and g10 scales. People everywhere love it, including me and my brother. You can buy it at Walmart for $40 or online for around $30. Also, the skyline weighs only a little over 2.5 ounces. Extremely light.

if your wanting another knife in a similar design as the m16 check out the gerber evo, not that great for steel but you can always try to find a maker who will make a new one for you

does anyone know if i can get the auto lawks taken out or if i can do it (i understand that it would void the warranty)

The Buck Vantage series has a flipper-and-stud design. I don't have one, so I cannot say how effective the flipper is... but from many reports, the knives are solid. Just make sure you don't buy from older stock.

Have you tried simply not engaging the auto lawks, if you don't like it? I just never bother to engage mine.

I'd have to look at mine a little closer to see if it can be permanently removed, ...just a thought though, maybe you could try solder or locktite on it to keep it in place in the disengaged position?

the new ones engage automatically, the one i had did not, and i liked it better
i liked having it for if i was going to be using my knife a any decent amount of time because of the safety issues
with the automatic engage, i have a lot of trouble closing it with one hand, since you have to hold the Autolawks lever and the liner lock at the same time to shut it
i wish the new ones were manual engage instead fo the automatic engage

Benchmade 710 has a narrow blade and the AXIS lock let's you pull the lock bar back and flip the knife open and closed. The Kershaw RAM has a lock that you can manipulate in a similar way and also has a great flipper. It flies open almost like an assisted knife. It also has a choil so it fits large hands well for its medium size. The Spyderco Paramilitary 2 has a lock that again can be flipped open and closed by disengaging the lock. It is a very popular knife and many people love it. The hole makes the knife slightly wider but isn't as bad as other Spyderco designs. Good luck deciding as their are tons of great knives in your price range.

well, i have decided that the griptilian by benchmade is comfortable to me (i looked at a local shop)
i have 4 options for steel, which shoudl i get?
154cm, D2, N680, or S30V?

I think that both the N680 and the s30v would be in the top bracket, with the other two trailing slightly. take whichever one you prefer. Glad you found a knife you like.

I love my Titaniam M16 and bought my son's one. But I wanted a flipper and the PX had SOG Flash II's for under 50 bucks. It actually feels quite a bit like the M16 with blade and handle angle to me.

Benchmade 940 Osborne or the 470 Emissary.
Both got 10/10 in my list, both costs 130$-150$

Yea so many options, would never give up any of my ZT Knives or my Skyline for anything else. Did I miss somewhere that you wanted a flipper? Anyways several options of knives I own that not just me but people I let use absolutely love.

Kershaw Skyline
SOG Flash 2
SOG Aegis
ZT 200
Buck Vantage series (I have Pro)
Insert Spyderco here ______
If you can carry a auto one of my absolute top all time knife is a Benchmade 2550 Mini Reflex
Those are just a few in the price range. Ah and here is a video for the Aegis by Nutnfancy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CB-gkFmixoY&feature=relmfu.

Two of my favorite and affordable, street price <$60, S30V EDC knives - the Spyderco Native and the Buck #347 Vantage Pro. The Buck will be more like you wanted - it's flip-deployable - or via the elongated thumb hole. Great blade steel on both knives.

Both were made in the USA - the Native even states 'Earth', if you are really lost!

I agree with the first commenter that ZT is a prime choice for flippable folders.
But, be aware they are heavy !
