New knife recommendations

It has been a couple years since my last knife purchase and I wanted to see if any new knives are getting good user reviews.

I carry a knife everyday. Clip, locking types. I own a spyderco delica, two benchmades, a mini -grip and an Hk drop point. My largest is a rather generic Kershaw whirlwind.

I am doing a little bit of small game hunting this year and the size of the Kershaw is handy but everyday carry it is a little big.

My favorite all around is the Mini Grip. I remember a variation of this from an independent individual but cannot remember the name.

I guess a knife the size of the Mini- grip with a nice blade for hunting. I am open to any suggestions.

Again this is not that my knives are lacking. I am just looking to spoil myself a bit.

Thanks everyone!

The paramilitary 2 has been getting great reviews. You could check that one out. Nice collection btw

I think the variation of the Mini Grip you're referring to is the Doug Ritter version. It has a higher grind for slicing.

You could also look at the Kershaw RAM.

The sanrenmu 710 is a pretty nice EDC, fits well in the pocket, and the price is great. $8.

Are you looking for a folder? If so, there's nothing wrong with using that mini-grip. I recommend a small fixed blade over the folder, though. It will be easier to keep clean than a folder.

Not sure of your budget, but a Benchmade 211 Activator or one of the Rant models would work well. Kershaw has the field knife and skinning knife. Spyderco is a bit light on fixed blades, but you could get one of their Mule blades if you don't mind buying/making scales and a sheath. The ESEE Izula 2, ESEE-3, and ESEE-4 would all be good. Buck has a number of smaller fixed blades. Becker has a 2-3 smaller fixed blades.

For folders, the benchmade MPR would be cool. Also, the spyderco paramilitary (in the regular s30v or one of the other steels in sprint runs) or the spyderco gayle bradley or chinook. Also, the ESEE HEST folder, or the izula folder if it ever comes out. I have also considered a buck 110, in cpm-154. Finally, you might want to check out zero tolerance knives. All of these which I have mentioned are larger than the mini-grip, however.

For fixed blades, sky is the limit since you don't list any.

Wow thanks you guys. Some really cool suggestions. I am not sure why but I started with folders and am partial to them. However for skinning etc I am sure a fixed blade is better.

Yeah, just imagine having to strip and clean a folder after skinning. Probably not fun. A fixed blade would definitely be lower maintenance.

Spyderco Caly 3.5. Virtually the same size and weight as the Caly 3 but has an extra half inch of blade.

I would take a look at the Benchmade Bone Collector lineup, especially since you like the min-grip, as the small BC is a lot like an upgraded mini-grip with G-10 handles, and D2 blade steel. There is also a nice walnut handled version!:)

Dang I am going to look at this one. I had my I on a Caly 3 at one point. Hmmm

I was in my local general store and handled a Kershaw Leek. Now this has never been a knife I fancied but I was very surprised how good it felt in my hand. The blade is different than my other knives and looks like a nice blade for some jobs.
I noticed that there is a G10/SV30 version. Any thoughts on the Leek?

My favorite variant is the CPM-D2 composite blade version. It's a well made knife and very practical.

Yes that is a good looking knife. I am not a huge fan of the slippery hand surface but it may not be an issue.
