Who do you think has the nicest new knife packaging?

How about the worse?

I know it doesn’t really matter - just looking for something to talk about.

Best I’ve seen is:
- Hoback: it’s a wooden box with a sliding door. Brand is wood burned into container.
- Medford: really nice hard plastic box with handle and foam padding
- Brous: hard plastic foam lined case

Worse:
- Tops: love the knives but they come in a sealed plastic bag, that’s it.

ProTech's new magnetic boxes are great, I also got a White River knife that came in a nice wood box. I don't care too much about packaging, I'm perfectly happy with the Benchmade or Hinderer boxes too.

I appreciate Buck's packaging on LE and custom shop knives.
Not over the top but tastefully done.
Microtech on their higher end models.
Reate.
Anything in a Pelican or wood box (although they are getting in the way now).
Some brand's boxes I have trouble finding in my packaging menagerie due to their insignificance.
I won't malign those brands here but I've bought candy bars with better packaging.
In the end I'd rather not even have to keep track of the damned things but reselling sort of dictates that I must...

I enjoy the tubes from GEC. They are sturdy and usually have nice artwork on the labels. I just got 2 CRKs and the packaging is really top notch.

I love Spydercos but always get mad when they show up in the mail and the box is crushed/bent.

Another fan here for the GEC tubes, each has a tasteful label on the tube, and the model number on the opening end so it's easy to identify. I too enjoy the fact that my CRKs came with microfiber cloth and grease for the pivot, those are nice touches.

I guess a fancy box is cool, if you want something nice for presentation as a gift , but for myself ...I'd rather they put that money into a better knife . ;)

So far as the smell ? I'm happy with nothing stinky !

Randall ships their knives in a plain brown box, the knife itself is wrapped in paper with the model number written on it with pen. That’s it.

sounds like it would be the worst, but I give it a vote for best. Why? Because They aren’t waisting money on packaging. There is nothing on it that makes it look worth steeling, and I can throw it all away without feeling guilty.

This obsession with boxes is silly to me.

Rough Rider has raised its game with its packaging. Some of the newer issues come in a box about the size of a box of kitchen matches. The lid has a magnetic closure. The knife rests in a cutout in a foam insert. Pretty elaborate for a knife that costs under twenty bucks.

I do not know who has some great packaging, but I like a smell of a leather sheath and a hint of oil on the blade.

Thinking about it more, I like how my Cypress Creek knives came in a small slender, stained wooden box with a slide lid and a soft cloth holding the knife. Just looked old fashioned and sturdy to hold them. And I liked how my Helle knife came in a tube with a cloth.

Of the ones I own, the best
CRK
Hoback
ZT
The worst
Kershaw
Lionsteel slipjoint

Ron Flaherty's come in a nice wooden box. GEC's smell ok with that nice oily paper, but I don't sniff them a whole lot.

Böker : the knives come in a sturdy cardboard box with magnetic closure and compact inner foam padding. Necessary ? No, but very secure.
GEC : of course, those tubes are both secure and exclusive to GEC. All good.
Tojiro Classic kitchen knives : they come in a simple but solid cardboard box. I can re-use these boxes to organize my kitchen drawer. Good.
A Japanese kitchen slicer by Shizu Hamono came in a neat, light paulownia wood box. Very nice !
And the top of the Pops must be Stefan Strömberg (BF's Knife Makers' Market) who sends every one of his knives in a fleece padded zippered nylon pouch. Wow !
Now, the worst ? Shoddy packaging that you are glad the knife didn't fall out during shipping. It happens and I have a hard time understanding it. On this subject, I must admit I have some cringe with knives being shipped internationally in padded envelopes. So far all went well, but am I stressed until the knife is safely in my hands !
And smell... Some protective oils have a rather aggressive smell. Hot water and soap will solve this. Not an issue. I appreciate the blade being well protected.

I was pretty impressed with Chris Reeve’s packaging, GEC tubes are always a nice experience.
