I have had a KA BAR utility short for about a month now, so far, so good. No hard use, except making a fire(flint)and a little betoning. So, now that I have my first fixed, I want to get my first folder. I will either go with one of these:

BM Griptilian drop point combo edge...
Spyderco Endura 4 Como edge FRN handle...
CRK&T M21 Special Forces G10...

I will do light wood work, and normal EDC tasks. If anyone hase any experiance, or knows which one is better, it'd be cool if you'd post.

Thanks:cool:

I will advise you NOT to get the CRKT M21 SF

Your call, but I find I really don't care for a combo blade on a 3 1/2" bladed folder. Too little of either type edge to do anything.

Of the three knives you have listed, I personally would take the Grip, but I think you would be well served by either the Grip or the Endura.

The CRKT is a step down from them IMO.

I also will advise you NOT to get the CRKT M21 SF. Especially compared to the other two.

- You can get a Spyderco Tenacious with G10 scales, and the same blade steel (8Cr13....) for 30 bucks. Or if it's an older one with AUS-8, don't do it. Especially for that price.

- If it's a chisel ground crkt (which most are or at least used to be), it wont hold an edge for very long

-Autolawks is probably the most annoying feature ever put on a folding knife. Kiss one hand closing good bye.

- the dual flipper extensions don't look very appealing for EDC. (one is good, but 2 isnt practical)

I have both of the other 2 (3 enduras, one griptillian) and they are my most carried knives. VG-10 is exceptional, and 154CM is great too. both will hold edges far longer than the CRKT, corrosion resistance is better, and I could never get my CRKT's very sharp (aus-8 models). Even though VG-10 and 154CM are tougher, they sharpen easier for me. You can't go wrong with either the grip or endura. Also, one of my Enduras is combo edge and it the balance of pe/se are good enough for me. I use them both regularly.

Well, everyone's pretty much said it. I'd say forget the CRKT & pick between the B/M & Spyderco. Personally, I'd prefer the Grip, but that's me. If you like CE on them, hey, it's your knife. You could also get a waved Endura, too.

Good luck.

i agree...grip or endura...however...i did own a m16 ($25 from walmart?) it wasnt horrible. wasnt amazingly sharp or anything....but i did like the autolawks design (this is comparing the crkt to other...thin liner locks not backlocks or axis) and i never had trouble closing it with one hand. however...i did give it away to a friend who thought it was cool. haha. but id definitely go with the grip or endura.
peace.

The Grip and Endura are both great. I have a preference for the Grip as I prefer thumb studs and it has the Axis Lock.

I would personally recommend not getting anything with a combo edge. I'm not a fan of serrated blades anyway, but a combo edge gives you too little of either edge to be useful. I have a full size grip, and I love it. I would consider getting the mini grip though, more color choices, and easier to carry.

I'd also recommend either the Endura or the Griptilian. I own both and like both, but if forced, I'd pick the Griptilian, plain edge.

CRKT....forget it...
Endura, its a nice knife, slim, strong, some small vertical play, but no problem in use
Griptilian, stronger than Endura, with its axis lock, but a little bulkier...

I'm also gonna go with the Grip recommendation if you're talking about the full sized version. It's a bit bulkier in the pocket than the Endura, but it's more comfortable for me to use than an Endura. I carry mine in a BM belt pouch and it rides fine there.

if paying a little more is ok, consider the military also, great cutter...flat grind, s30v steel, needle point, liner lock, g10 handle with nested liners

oh my god the LAWKS system is reason enough not to get the CRKT... I agree, it's completely obnoxious to use.

I'd get the Endura, personally. Although my next purchase is going to be a Griptilian... Really you can't go wrong here.
