Hi Everyone,

I need some help I am new to this I just pick-up a knife today at a gun and knife show. It is a large Alamo Bowie in a wooden box it is marked with the number 011 the person that sold it to said that it was one of 250 and was etched by Aurum Etching.

I payed a lot of money for it and was wondering if I was taken to the cleaners? It was under $1000.00 so I am hoping I didn't get hosed to bad does anybody know anything about it. I could not find anything about it in my books or on the net that was of any help.

Thank you,
Nobeard

Hello and welcome to Bladeforums nobeard. Can you provide some pictures of the knife? Both sides of the knife, the box, and any markings on the blade? This would really help in providing you information.

Hi all,

I need some help I am a new bee, I found what I call a really cool knife at a knife and gun show it. The box is about a fine a box that I have ever seen for any gun or knife. The plate says REPUBLIC OF TEXAS SERIES: THE ALAMO with likeness of Santa, Travis, Houston, Bowie and Crockett the Texas seal with 011/250 engraved. Inside the knife is a highly engraved Bowie with scenes of the Alamo. The name of the engraver is Aurum Etching.

Please e-mail me with any help that you may have I have take pictures but can not kind out how to add them.

Thank you,

unless the box has a name brand of knife maker on it then I would say made in china.

Aurum Etching is a firm in Garland Texas. Not sure if they are still
in business. They used to do alot of etching on Custom Knives. I
believe they offered engraving too, but I could be wrong.

Well I have found out about my knife, it was made in 1976 and etched by Aurum Etching a run of 250 knives mine is number 11. They made a set of 4 different knives for the State of Texas Republic. I have found a picture of President Ronald Reagan receiving one from Samuel R. Shortes President & Founder of Aurum Etching in the Oval office at White House in 1976. Consequently after his death the knife is now on display at his President Library in CA. There is another Alamo Bowie on display at the Alamo Museum In San Antonio, Texas. Michael Wayne oldest son of John Wayne bought two Alamo Bowies one for himself and one for his father. The ones of you that said it made be China made knife and worthless I do not agree with you you need to do you home work.

Reagan at white house in 1976? Dates may be off...He didn't take office until
1980 I believe.

Anyway, can you post a pic of your Alamo Bowie?

I sell a bunch of china knifes and I have had the same knifes that you have in your picture and belive me when I am buying off a china importer they are china.

No...it doesn't. There's no "rule" like the Geneva Convention or something that says how things have to be marked.

I have seen micro tech put really good on a OTF knife and comes in a box printed up just like the real deal and I know for a fact that it was made in china.

It's to bad that you are full of BS it is America made you can sell all the cheap stuff that you want. I will keep the good stuff, I will not buy any China made items that I can avoid people that sell that trash is part of the problem in the USA. BUY AMERICAN MADE STUFF ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!You need to check the web about Aurum etching you are not a collector just a junk sales person.

they have a knife right now on the web. it looks like the buck 110. it has there name on it. marked on the blade is really good. it is a switchblade. I cant buy a brand new real buck for $20. much less a switchblade for that much. I dont mind selling the clones but when they start putting fake names on it then I draw the line.
